What do you make of this creepy photograph?

What I find disturbing (and darkened and desaurated in the one I retouched to make less graphic) was that there are red globs in her hair that look a it like brain matter (or at least as I’ve seen it appear in other online photos of accident scenes etc.) Actually, I’m being an alarmist. It’s probably just drops of blood. But still, “gravely injured” looks pretty accurate.

I can understand how the news might want to make it look less graphic, but they shanced the shape of her eye and/or suggests she is wearing make-up. And that odd horizontal streak I mentioned above is most definitely from a scanner.

I would assume that the fornesic specialist photo is actually much better that what was on the OP’s site. That one was useless.

Try Jack Nicholson.

You know, when I first saw that picture years ago, I thought that if I ever had kids, for shits and giggles, I’d stage photos of them like that and then drop them in parking lots.

It’s an odd picture to take of someone, that’s for sure. The only innocent thing I can think of is maybe someone is documenting her injuries for insurance or a lawsuit? Like if she was in an accident or beat up by her boyfriend or something and a friend or relative is trying to gather evidence.
Why the photo was left behind…it could be an accident. But I can see why police are concerned.

You’re right. That’s quite a head wound too - see how the hair below it is matted?

There’s also blood on her hand (and on the hair between her nose and hand), and there’s two “finger marks” of blood on her arm.

For some reason, I get the feeling she’s on a waterbed.

This just makes me sick to my stomach to think that we may be looking at the victim of a heinous crime. Please be sure to update this thread if any more information becomes available.

The original raises a lot more concern…why didn’t they just release that one?

The globs in her hair remind me of subcutaneous fat…maybe it’s just the color on my monitor though.

That white strip in the lower left corner looks a bit odd.

Even the new picture is retouched. Did they only reclose the gaping headwound in their photoshopping or is there other shit they’re not telling us?

Just look at the shade of her lips. On the one hand, I’m thinking she’s dead. No woman who has lips that color is alive. On the other hand, I’m thinking that a dead body would release its jaw muscles so that the body’s mouth would hang open. I’m perplexed.

It’s a goddamn shame that no other news agencies have picked up this story. It seems to only be getting play in Bumblefuck, Oklahoma. The locals on Websleuth say that the gas station in question is an out of the way place. No security cameras. They even have the nostalgic rotary-dial gas pumps.

No one who took a photo like this is leaving it accidentally. He’s a psycho. Psychos don’t shit where they eat. As in a similar case like this, Tara Calico’s kidnapper snatched her in New Mexico and left the supposed Polaroid of her in Florida. So yeah, national coverage might be fuckin helpful.

I’m getting a taunting Dennis Rader-style vibe here.

You’re right! That totally proves that THIS girl is dead and we should send the cadaver dogs out at once!

I’m sorry I offended you, Nancy. What would make you happy?

The lips could look lighter just due to the crappiness of the photo or because of low blood pressue/blood loss. My sister’s girlfriend is Latin and her lips look greyish on cold days, and weirdly, if she’s cold because she’s been swimming they actually get blue like she’s cyanidic even on warm days. I’d say they’d match someone who had fainted from a head wound.

Head wounds bleed like motherf*****s too. So… :: fingers crossed :: hopefully her head wound is just very, very sloppy and not as serious as it looks.

Count me in as someone who is hoping the photos were taken my a friend or good samaritan to be used as evidence of some kind. I’m hoping the blood smears on her arm are from someone helping her up, and the photos were taken to document domestic abuse or something, but that the woman is okay now.

If she’s alive and well but in hiding, she may not come forward.

I can understand truning the photo so that she looks upright and disguising the alarming stuff, but a lot of the “forensic retouching” made the original OP image less helpful. (Hence I suspect the one on the OP’s new webiste is a screen capture from TV). That photo looks more like a make-up wearing college kid than the original.

Bumping this on the sad occasion anyone might have any new information.

Nothing new. I did call my local TV channels to try to get them to run the story. They told me that unless AP or other wire service picks it up, they won’t run it. Bah.

Are there so many of these kinds of cases out there that something like this wouldn’t be considered newsworthy?

Grrrr.

You could send the info to America’s Most Wanted for their missing persons segment (or ask the McCain County sheriff to do it).

Unless it’s a fake, she looks dead to me, but there is no way we can really tell from a photo IMHO. If she was “just” severly injured, here’s hoping there is some kind of readily available hospital ER database to clear it up.

She looks dead to me. Look at her eyes- dead! Very, very creepy.

I hate to say it, but I agree that she looks dead. She’s not injured and posing for a documentary photo; living people aren’t as slack as she is in that photo. She appears to have a serious head wound, though we can’t see the extent of it, of course.

I see the blood “fingerprints” on her arm. I also see a big bruise on her arm, starting at the two blood marks and extending to the right, covering a good portion of the arm. The blood appears (in my non-professional judgment) to be fairly fresh; blood turns more brown than that when it dries.

Her arm (I’m pretty sure that’s her arm, not someone else’s) is lying under the edge of something along the top of the photo, maybe a blanket. Looking at the way her hair is lying against it at top left, I think it’s something vertical; maybe a blanket hanging off the edge of a bed?

Grim possibility: It’s possible she was shot in the head while lying just as she is in the photo. That might explain the blood that’s on the hand we can see. I’ve never seen a head-shot victim, though; I don’t know if it would do more obvious damage.

What’s the curved white line at the bottom-left of the photo? The one that leads up into her hair? I can’t really get a read on what that is.

:dubious:

One of those flex tie thingys?

Aye, agree. Good grief, she looks dead. Or at least extraordinarily stunned/messed up for a person not in a MVA.

She looks a little like a very creepy girl I used to work with. She definitely liked playing with people’s heads, and if she was involved, I wouldn’t have put it past her to use make-up to get a good laugh at the expense of ‘concerned citizens’.

Of course the odds that this is a joke being played by a socio-path are pretty low. Still, it is possible.
