What do you put in your baked beans?

That sounds good. I love lima and butter beans.

How about a diced-up bell pepper? How about a pureed Jalopeno pepper?

I tried making them from scratch one time, and oh! what a fiasco! I probably should have at least looked at a recipe, but it seemed like such an easy thing. I soaked my dried beans like I would for bean soup, then put them in the baking dish, seasoned it, and popped it in the oven at 350º. Two hours later I tried one - still hard. So I turned it up to 400º and waited two more hours, same result. Got mad, turned it up to 450º. I eventually had to add a glass of water, and the stubborn kicked in, so they cooked a total of 8 hours at 450º and never got more than semi-edible. :frowning:

British-style baked beans sound a lot like our pork and beans! There’s pretty much no pork in it, unless you count the one fatty globule of nasty stuff.

Lots of info and recipes in this thread from a few years ago.

I just add chopped-up viennas, for that C&H “cigar butts in a gallstone sauce” feel…

Thank you, silenus! I’ll give baking the baked beans another shot.
