I think yelling for help or calling the police is bullshit, Nzinga. That’s why I wouldn’t have even thought that those are justifiable answers to your question.
Ok. I actually think you can’t think of anything productive one could do barring violence and chanting Ohm. I can think of several, but that’s just me, maybe.
I just said 1) Yelling for help and 2) Calling the police. So I can and did think of “productive” things, but again, “productive” is in quotes. Perhaps the language barrier is getting in the way of what you want to say.
What language barrier are you referring to? Getting in the way of what I want to say?? I speak very plain, and I say just what I mean. Let me break it down further.
I excluded ‘yelling for help’ and ‘calling the police’. I excluded those options as ‘nonproductive’ for the sake of argument. Because you had already declared those options ‘bullshit’.
If someone says to me, “I’m non-violent period”, if I my imagination is operable enough to conjur up ‘you are watching a man brutalize your wife’ then my imagination is operable enough to come up with, “so you bodily wedge between your wife and said madman and emcompass her with your body” or any other scenario, long before I get to, “so you chant ‘ohm’”.
Thats just my take on it. I don’t have a beef with you or anything, I’m just surprised that you can’t think of other passive ways one can deal with a violent threat. Even if that wouldn’t be my style of dealing with a loved one being attacked, I can imagine ways that a passive, non violent person can deal with it, other than chanting, ‘ohm’.

Don’t do that . It is a stupid argument. Nobody knows what they would do. A person who says I would shoot him and love it, does not know either. He could freeze and do nothing. You don’t know until it happens.
I had a friend who thought he could shoot an intruder. he was a big talking hunter that said, if someone broke into my house ,I would shoot him in a second, no problem. Well. it happened. He was home and heard a noise. Someone was breaking into his rear bedroom window. He had his rifle loaded and ready. When the robbers hand grabbed the sill to pull himself in, he used the rifle but and smashed hid hand as hard as he could. When we talked later, he said, he just couldn’t do it. Yet he always thought he could.
You don’t have to chant, but you just don’t know.
