Mostly it just sounds funny and disjointed to me - some music just doesn’t go with doof-doof-doof (I heard a techno version of Moonlight Sonata once :(). But I recently was given a version (by DJ Tiesto) of Barber’s “Adagio for strings” and it’s beautiful.
Apotheosis did a dance mix of O Fortuna that was pretty interesting.
I like that one, but I think I prefer Ferry Corsten’s remix of the Orbit version.
Here’s a similar thread.
Thank you very kindly!
I don’t consider these to be ‘classical-influenced’. They’re basing a tune around a widely-familiar sample, and that general resonance of the sample is a major part of the effect produced. That the sample comes from a classical piece is not particularly relevant. This something I’m saying as a value-judgement: the music has to stand or fall on its own merits.
(I’m assuming that we’re not also talking about pieces which take the entireity or a large section of a classical piece and plaster beats all over the top of it - I’ve yet to hear that done in a way which suggests the slightest understanding of the original, at least since the Bee Gees )
