If you must have fringe keep in mind that short fringe is less likely to get tangled and ratty than long fringe.
I’m agin it.
No fringe. And no lace on my flannel nightgown, either. Let me know when they are ready and I will PM you my address. Thank you!
:D
If you want something more practical that triangle shawls, look into faroese shawls. They are wider in proportion to their length, and were originally designed to be wide enough to tie around the shoulders, cross in front of the chest, and tie behind the back. Basically, they’re an outer garment, a jacket or extra sweater, only shawl-like.
Nowadays, they’re mostly worn decoratively, and hence are shorter and worn with shawl-pins. But fringe-wise, they jibe very well with your attitude: decorative shawls are fringed, workaday ones are unfringed (although originally, even the fringe was intended to serve as extra length/warmth when worn over church-clothing in bad weather).
They’re no more complicated than triangle shawls; the difference, more or less, is extra space between the central increases/decreases, plus some pretty basic shoulder shaping.
No fringe - that’s just an invitation for my cats to take it apart! Same goes for tied quilts - I love tied quilts but have only one that’s tied and (what’s left of it) is put away safely so the cats don’t destroy the remainder. Fringe = cat toy.
Fringe gets hair and stuff snarled in it, so I hate it.
