We had a thread months ago in which I expressed my love for The Ship. I also like Mail Call and History’s Mysteries, especially when it’s ghost- and spirit-related and verges on becoming a tabloid spectacular.
It’s the only channel my parents can fall asleep to.
Really, that’s a compliment.
I’m hooked on the H.S.
Anytime I’m around the T.V. the H.S. is on. Except for the Haunted History episodes… Those suck.
And I love seeing how they can relate Hitler to any story, no matter how unrelated. I put bets on if they’ll mention him in a specific show with a few friends (sad, I know).
Discovery Civilization Channel airs a lot of shows about ancient cultures. Of course, it usually goes Egypt Egypt Egypt Rome Egypt Egypt Egypt Egypt Greece Egypt Egypt Rome Egypt Egypt…
The two History channels do a lot on Egypt as well. Either Hitler or Egypt. I’m sure the History channel’s wet dream is a program like this: “What if Hitler had been a Pharoah in Ancient Egypt?” Two for the price of one! They’d probably drag it out for three hours, too.
I mean, I like Ancient Egypt, but enough already.
Interesting combining the Exodus and Holocaust, bean. ;j
That’s why it would be three hours long.
So many Hamans, only one Purim.
Ever notice how nearly every sentence in “Haunted History” begins with some variation with, “According to some…”?
I love the History Channel!
I agree with too much Hitler/WW2, though. Especially since they only seem to show military documentaries–I would watch something on the Holocaust or the Homefront. War docs (tend to) bore me. As for individual shows being aired ad nauseum, the History Channel always seems to have the St Valentine’s Day Massacre one on.
I do like “History’s Mysteries”, though they seemed to have fallen off a bit recently. I suppose there’s only so many historical and mysterious things that can make up a show. The one on the Salem Witch Trials was a classic. I agree with bean_shadow about “This Week in History” being better before the themes were established. More stories were featured, and they were actually relevant (as in this week in history…). Does anyone remember “Year by Year”? That was an awesome show.
I love “History’s Lost and Found” and “The Most”, although they are hardly ever on anymore. Let’s see…“The XY Factor” is another fun one.
The History Channel really hits their stride when they do the one-offs and miniseries. I like the histories of the holidays, for example, “The Story of Halloween”. My absolute favorite are “American Eats: History on a Bun” and its companion, “American Drinks: History in a Glass”. I taped those when they initially aired and my brother and I used to watch them all the time. The miniseries are also really great. I like the ones like “The History of Sex”, where they pick a subject and show its historical relevence from the Ancients to the 21st Century. I also like the miniseres that look at a certain historical period (i.e., “The Fifties”) where each show addresses a topic pertaining to the era.
So, in other words…I have a slight fondness for the History Channel.
PS: Biggirl: “America’s Castles” and “American Justice” air on A&E (which I like even better than the History Channel. Mmmmm, “City Confidential”…)
I forgot about The Most. I loved that show, too. They had a mini-marathon the other day, and that was a pleasant change of pace.
