What do you think of this tie?

Sure, but how often do you wear a tie? There’s no way that a silk tie that cost under $50 is anything but a four in hand tie and those aren’t normally going to survive regular tying for too long, say 25 to 40 wearings. A 6 or 7 fold tie on the other hand is going to cost more because there’s a lot more material in them and it’s of a finer grade, but these ties can often survive 100 tyings or more before needing repair.

ETA- that is as long as you don’t rip them off at the end of the day. People who yank the knots out of their ties are going to stress the tie much harder and it will last even less time.

Hardly ever, nowadays, but every day for 6 or 7 years. I can confidently say I’ve worn some of those ties at least 100 times.

Single Windsor. I’m tall and skinny.

Hee…“Eradication Sale”. I love it!

Think it’s ugly, boring and too expensive, but I admit I’m not big on J. Crew in the first place.

Well good on you if they still look like new, you got your hands on some quality ties. The four in hand thing wasn’t about the knot though, it’s actually the kind of tie that those knots were developed for as it’s been told to me. Four in hands are the ones with a lining in them to give them the bulk to allow them to lay correctly. The 6 and 7 folds have, you’ll never guess, 6 or 7 folds of the tie material in them to give them the right bulk and lie and they are always unlined. Those guys you see on TV and magazines with the giant and perfect windsors are tying them in these kinds of ties, which give a much fuller knot and break perfectly.

Cluricaun - Whose stepfather worked as a haberdasher back in the day and whom I can listen to go on about this stuff forever.

The tie in the OP looks very Thurston Howell III

Humm - I’m a rather big J.Crew fan but I’m not crazy about that tie - it seems like it’s trying a bit too hard, to be honest.

However, I’m not a big fan of the ‘critter’ stuff anyway - a pair of pants with pineapples all over them strike me as absurd, and not in a good way. In a “I’m a crazy wacky grand-ma who dresses like this to amuse my grand kids” way. I’m not that person, and I’m assuming that the average tie-wearer isn’t that person either.

I do have to agree that $125 for a tie doesn’t seem like a crazy price though - just about what you pay for a good quality tie that you’re going to wear often.
