What do you think of Used Chevy Aveos?

What do you think of Chevy Aveos? Used?

Hatchback/5 doors.

Do these come with automatic transmission? I know the sedans do, but…?

Overall, is it a good used car choice?

I think you can do better.

Having driven one or two in my last car search, I can tell you that they are cheap pieces of crap.

We bought a new 2008 Aveo hatchback in January 2008. No problems so far. Good mileage (near 40, though I wish it were higher; our Aspire – also a much-denigrated car – got close to 50), gets us from Point A to Point B, not a luxury ride but comfortable. Yeah, it’s a cheap car, and it’s small, but it does the job. What’s the problem?

I got stuck with an Aveo as a rental car on my last trip. And decided within the first 3 hours of driving that I will NEVER EVER buy an Aveo.

The seats were uncomfortable. It didn’t have good acceleration. It was super light and blew all over the road in the wind, but despite the light weight, it didn’t have great gas mileage.

I agree with **spooje **on the piece of crap assessment.

I bought a 2007 Aveo Sedan last year and have been extremely impressed. It handles great, can turn on a dime, and gets great gas mileage. It also doesn’t have all the extra luxury crap that I didn’t want to pay for. The car had 22,000 miles on it and only cost me around $8,500. I also enjoy the fact that it is so small that I can reach everywhere in the passenger compartment from the driver’s seat, so backseat retrieval of items is a snap (I don’t often ride with passengers). I’m a 6’1" male, and the seats seem fine to me.

The only downside I’ve found is that it gets stuck in snow fairly easily.
It should be noted that I’m the type of guy whose main priorities when buying are total cost, gas mileage, warranty availability, and will it fit easily into a parking space. The Aveo passes all of these admirably. Of course, so does that little car Mr. Bean drives (which I would totally get if it were available in the US). It’s much better than my previous vehicle, a 1992 Bonneville. The thing was huge, had terrible gas mileage, had to make wide corners, and was always breaking down. shiver

We seem to be in tune.

Owners = love it
Rentals = suckage.

Yeah, if only those people who only rented it, went and bought it, I’m sure they’d start loving it.

I looked into an Aveo while searching for my next vehicle. I thought it handled about like many other cars in its class. After studying a little bit about it, I decided that I could do better than a re-badged Daewoo. YMMV.

I rented one a while back. It wasn’t a bad little car, but I noticed all the interior was cheap-looking plastic. I think this car might have some isues with stuff breaking (after hard use).

Our most recent car is an Aveo. I got a year-old one that had been sitting on the lot for a year for a song. Really cheap, in less than 6 months I had it paid off.

And I sort of like it. We bought it to get a high fuel efficiency vehicle when gas was up at $4/gallon out here and it’s performed well. It’s not the most efficient car for running around our small town (only two miles across) but once we get out into the highways for six hour trips to the grandparents and stuff it gets the job done pretty well.

The only luxury item I wanted when we went looking was a one-eighth inch audio jack for the iPod and the ability to have XM plugged into the stereo. The Aveo has the first and I took care of the second. So I have a completely paid off little economy car with the music options I wanted. What the hell, right?

Get me. This is NOT a luxury car. It’s an efficient car for people who don’t place a lot of emphasis on their wheels. But it seats Lady Chance and I, as well as two kids (one in a car seat) fairly well. I can’t complain.

Since it’s one of the few cars you can buy NEW for under $10000, it doesn’t seem to be that bad of a deal. I know someone who owns one, and yes it is a cheap car, for which he paid cheaply. I don’t see a problem. He seems to like it, it went through the warranty period with no issues.

That being said, it’d have to be a *hell *of a price for me to consider a used one.

Tell us the price, options, milage?

Not applicable, yet.

Shopping around, until I get a good deal.

With my pitiful pay, a used one is the right option.
