An entrance hall, even a small one. 95% of the houses in my general area have a front door straight onto the living room carpet.
She is your mortar enemy?
Nah, we usually have a blast together.
I agree emphatically. The open concept is one of the worst fads that’s come along in housing, but unfortunately I live in an open concept house.
A ground-source heat pump. It would save on the heating bill and avoid the frustration of keeping the driveway in pristine condition in winter so the oil truck can get up.
Central air conditioning instead of the window units we have.
A paved driveway instead of the gravel/dirt one we have. Easier to keep plowed.
A whole-house generator. We’re in the boonies and sometimes lose power for days at a time.
A summer kitchen in a separate wing (with a door that can be closed) or even in a separate building. These were common centuries ago to avoid overheating the main house, but they have fallen out of favor. Baking in the summer is murder on personal comfort or the air conditioning bill, sometimes both. I can use the grill outside, but that gets old fast during a heat wave.
A roof or awning over the back deck. It’s too sunny and hot to use it much during the months when I’d most like to use it.
A girl friend.
My parents’ house was like this. Technically ours is too, in that there is a front door that goes into the living room, but there is also a side entrance which where the driveway is, and a walkway goes from it to that side entrance. There is no walkway that goes to the front door. So 99% of the time that’s where guests and delivery people go. The side door is also where the entry hall, closet, etc. is, so I think the only reasons we have a front door is because a) the front of the house would look weird without it, and b) it’s much easier to use that door to move large objects in and out.
Would she go for a water cannon if you pitched it as a pressure washer/dish sprayer/bidet?
