What does a person's DNA look like if gathered in a pile?

As long as it doesn’t lead to dancing, we’ll be OK.

I don’t know, at human pH levels I’m pretty sure those phosphate groups are deprotonated. It would probably be a bit salty. With all the amines and nitrogens being hydrogen bonded, I’m going to guess it tastes like a gooey MSG. Maybe it has a future as a food additive.

I have tasted it. It tasted very slightly salty, and not bad. It was in water solution though, so it might have been contaminants I could taste.

If you dry it down with a lyophilizer, you’ll end up with a white powder; very much like dried, white snot.

Barry Sharpless is that you?

I want to know if they were using vodka. And if so, how they listed that in the lab supply requisition for the class.

I am so doing this when we get to 5th grade biology. Yay!

This makes me think of the next evolution of Vampires… DNAmpires!

Wouldn’t it have to be dried out to be pure DNA (unless, of course, DNA is gooey on its own)?

And how much would there be?

A pound of dust? Three? A small cup of it?

a rough estimate:
human cell contains 2-3m of DNA with a diameter of the double helix of around 1-1.5nm ->
this is around 410-18 cubic meters/cell, times 10^14 cells in the human body => 410-4 cubic meters if you could pack it without any space in between, which would be a cube whose sides are about as long as the width of your hand

between 1 to 2 pounds of dust. The salty taste comes from the sodium, potassium and magnesium ions that compensate the charge of the phosphate ions in DNA prepared at neutral pH.

Or a cuboctahedron , perhaps?

“Well, I like vampire stories, but I’m not comfortable with the sexual undertones.”

“Why don’t you try reading about DNAmpires?”

“You’re sure there are no sexual undertones in those stories?”

Undertones, no.”
