I just went to that site to watch the Hai karate commercial, and I think the best part is at the end the voiceover says "it’s like super mistletoe in a bottle!"
I never understood this. I would rather wear nothing around the woman saying this.
Old Spice!?! My father wore Old Spice. Maybe my grandchildren, if any should arise, might wear it again…
Yeah, with Old Spice, ladies would often comment…
“You smell like my dad”.
Then, if you were really lucky, you might get a handshake at the end of the evening.
Hmm… those Hai Karate ads sound like they have the same gist as those Axe commercials I see on tv nowadays… any thoughts?
A while back Mrs. P bought me an expensive bottle of cologne. (Safari. Egads! What a name for a cologne.) I, being the cheapskate that I am, bought a bottle of “Our version of” Boss at the dollar bill store. Guess which one she and the daughter both selected in a blind test. Yep! Step right up folks! Only a dollar! Just ten thin dimes!
Oh yeah. I wear Old Spice too.
Ah, yes, cologne ads. I once knew a gal who would go all moist at a mere whiff of English Leather. Most of the “Oooh, what is that you’re wearing?” reactions I’ve gotten have come from Aramis.
A new development is Angel Men from Thierry Mulger. It smells like chocolate! Now, why didn’t anyone think of that when I was in high school?
Here in the UK, we seem to have a series of such tacky adverts.
I remember the tall glamorous brunette who did ‘Hai Karate’, and the popular boxer who splashed Brut everywhere.
Currently we have a commercial featuring a gormless looking chap who stands up from his bar stool and starts to dance in a simple gormless way.
Because he is wearing some aftershave or other, two gorgeous women then are irresistibly drawn to join him (doing the moves better than him!).
Ah, if only it were true…
Kunoichi mentioned ‘Axe’ earlier, i’m wondering if that is the same thing as ‘Lynx’ the deodarant mentioned in Glee’s post (the one with the dancing gimpy guy) I seem to remember that is what it was called in France. Am I right?
When I was a little girl, my big brother who I idolized wore Brut, so I thought it was the most wonderful smelling stuff.
Then in high school, I had a huge crush on a guy who work English Leather, and thus I liked the smell of English Leather.
The smell of either of these aftershaves brings back happy memories.
Granted I wore ‘Chantilly’ back then … ugh sicky sweet smelling stuff. And I wore Andron when it was still available. But now I’ll stick with Opium.
