What does Israel hope to accomplish?

I don’t have a cite, but isn’t it reasonable to at least allow for the possibility that this is a function of the Hamas governance? Meaning, when your leadership shoots, chops heads off, throws people off of buildings when there’s opposition, perhaps the support is artificial? I’ll bet polls in North Korea would show 100% support of Dear Leader.

Agree. As I mentioned upthread - Hamas has the guns, so anyone who openly doesn’t “support” Hamas is probably dead, or keeping quiet about it. You are not going to find a lot of “opposition” in situations like that.

The calculus of conventional war is that if you have ten enemies and you kill seven, you now have three enemies.

The calculus of anti-terrorism is that if you have ten enemies and you kill seven, you now have seventeen enemies. Because every one of the seven you killed has sons, brothers, nephews, best friends, etc.

Bibi thinks he’s found a way around that. You kill the sons, brother, etc preemptively.

Tell me I’m wrong.

A population blames the people dropping bombs on them for bombs falling on them, and not the people not dropping bombs on them? It’s a pretty clear “my team” vs. “their team” mixed with a bit of Hamas violently putting down dissent. There’s nobody else to rule Gaza.

Israel’s reaction has proven Hamas’s propaganda right. Israel is the evil next door coming to kill your children and take your land.

If reason won the day, then Gazans might look at it objectively and understand Hamas has culpability for their current predicament. Unfortunately, reason flies out the window when your children are dying. As evidence, I provide what Israel has done to Gaza in the past six months.

It is certainly reasonable, yes.

If Hamas hadnt attacked on Oct 7- none of this suffering or death would have occurred. Just the normal suffering and death. So, to start it all it is the fault of Hamas. But Netanyahu’s over the top reactions and overall incompetence has made the situation much worse than it had to be. That lays on him.
