What does my trash man do with the empty bag?

Every Monday I put three trash bags on the curb for trash man to pick up. Two of the bags I close with Twisties. I don’t bother to seal the third bag because it contains newspapers, and maybe magazines and a catalogue or two.

This morning, I happened to look out the window as the trash man was dumping the bags in the truck. Curiously enough, he emptied newspapers, etc., of the un-Twistied bag into the truck, and brought the bag into the cab with him.

I mentioned this to my wife who then told me she noticed the same occurrence last week.

So why do you think the man saves the damn bag?

Mildly curious.

Perhaps he’s the very charitable sort and he knows there’s a little old dear on his collection round who can’t afford bags of her own so he keeps your unsealed ones and passes them on to her.

Or maybe he eats them.

Perhaps he is sorting the recyclable paper into a separate bin, but the bag can’t go in with the paper so he separates it out.

…but I think this is the true answer.

I vote for eating them, and I think you guys should keep the door locked.

We can’t put newspapers or magazines out in plastic bags. We either have to put them out tied with twine or in a paper bag or a box.

If we put our newspaper out in plastic the trash man won’t even pick our trash up. Maybe he’s removing it for you.

I think you and FatBaldGuy are on the right track. As I watched, our T-Man put the papers in the rightmost spot of the truck, no doubt where all the other papers were.

But why not then just throw the empty bag into the main garbage left side of the truck, instead of putting it into the cab with him?
