I have sold an item on Amazon and have to post it to Denmark. The address given is:
John Doe Dane
Suchandsuch street 71
Aalborg SOE
Aalborg
[postal code]
Denmark
I know that Amazon’s address fields often result in buyers having to enter extraneous lines in the mailing address. Googling “SOE” “Danish addresses” brings up a few examples with SOE or Soe in them, but no explanation as to what it means and whether it is necessary. Any Danes about?
WAG pending a Dane Doper giving us an accurate answer: Might it be the Danish equivalent for “city, village, or post office community” so that the address is Aarhus city in Aarhus province, Denmark?
Barring the Dutch/Danish confusion, I think you have it. Danish for southeast is sydøst, according to Google, and ø is often transliterated as oe. Makes sense to me, but from Googling addresses, you don’t need “Aalborg SØ, Aalborg”, just “Aalborg SØ”.
Edit: Looking at this list of Danish postal codes would seem to confirm it, with big cities being split into N, S, V, Ø and combinations thereof.
