In a Pit thread discussing William Bennett’s recent remarks re methods for reducing the crime rate esteemed poster duffer said (edited for non-Pit language, of course):
“Oh for C****'s sake, people. Lighten the **** up. Strap the knees to the chair and live a little.”
I didn’t want to sidetrack the ranting in the Pit, but what does “Strap the knees to the chair” mean? How can one do that and simultaneously live a little?
In context, I suppose that’s what duffer meant. I would have imagined, however, that it would refer to making sure the legs are secured before strapping on the rest of the electrodes.
I’m glad someone else missed that imagery. The first thing that popped into my head was the restraints on “Ole Sparky”. I thought captial punishment for partisan sniping was a bit extreme, even for duffer.
