What does the name "Taylor" say to you?

Please include what gender it says to you as well…

It says girl to me.

Taylor is probably a boy, but I wouldn’t be too surprised if it were a girl. Seems like a popular name for kids in the late 1990’s.

Is there something you’ll be announcing soon?

Yuppie suburban parents.

Doesn’t matter if it is a boy or a girl.

Or very uppercrust, northeastern US. There is supposedly a longstanding tradition of christening girls with family names which seem very pompous as first names. I don’t have a general cite, but in Bonfire Of The Vanities, Tom Wolfe did name a five-year-old girl character “Campbell”. (Ew.)

There are probably dozens of women from that background named Taylor.

Thanks to Jack Johnson, I now think girl.

“She just wanders around…”

A perfectly good surname or a tacky name for a girl/odd one for a boy.

Sounds like a girl to me. A preppy girl with a sweater on her shoulders who says “like” a lot.

“Y’know, like, I was, like, going to, like, the mall?”

Oh, yeah, and she uses “uptalk,” too meaning, she ends every sentence as though it were a question.

Someone who sews for a living.

Says to me Beneath The Planet of the Apes. Charlton Heston’s character. Specifically, Nova’s first word.

Downmarket name for a girl born mid to late-1990s. Parents trying to seem like upper-crust east coast whatevers. Probably has a brother named Dylan and a sister named Jordan.

Popularity ranking since 1990:

2003 19
2002 18
2001 12
2000 9
1999 8
1998 7
1997 7
1996 6

Look, I’d appreciate it if posters would stop holding back and give it to me straight

Wow…aside from being thought of as a girl’s name, it also appears to annoy the hell out of people.

Good feedback…Thanks!

Sounds either yuppie/uppercrust (male or female) or porn star (female) to me. Taylor Hayes and Taylor Wane are just two lovely ladies of adult film that spring to mind.

I agree with the others who think it sounds like the child of trendy parents. Could be a boy or a girl.

I had 2 siblings in my day camp this summer named Trellis and Baker. Blech. What’s wrong with “John” or “Anne”?

Another vote for “trendy yuppie parents,” “yuck,” and “could be boy or girl.”

For someone over 25, male.
For someone 15-25, gender neutral.
For someone under 15, I would expect a girl, but not be surprised to see a boy.

Since it’s turned into as pile on.

Nice last name.

Contrived, forced, and trendy first name for a girl or boy.

Oh wow. Those are terrible. My oldest is in kindergarten this year and between the two classes (maybe 30 or so kids) there are two Daltons, a Wyatt, and a Cody. Apparently we are now living in Tombstone.

TRELLIS? Do his or her parents realize that a trellis is a gardening tool? What on earth were they thinking?

It sounds like the sheriff of Mayberry to me, but then I watch way too much TV.
