Hi, I am Judith Cefkin, U.S. Ambassador to Fiji, Nauru, Kiribati, Tonga and Tuvalu. It was interesting to see the conversation about our Embassy and me on the Straight Dope message board. I found a number of the comments insightful, but would really encourage you to follow our Embassy’s website http://suva.usembassy.gov and Facebook U.S. Embassy Suva | Suva to get a better picture of what we do in Fiji. Embassy Suva is a busy place. My staff and I are here to protect and promote the interests of the United States in this important region. Our Consular section provides the full spectrum of services to those wishing to visit the United States and to U.S. citizens residing and visiting this region. We also support fledgling democracies by engaging women, youth, entrepreneurs and civil society. We collaborate with Pacific communities to strengthen their ability to respond to the effects of climate change. We engage with South Pacific leaders on security and military issues and communicate with local media and the public to convey the U.S. perspective on important issues. In other words, we are proud to serve our country as we represent the U.S. government in the South Pacific.
