Support Local Farmers
or
Watch Houses Grow
To me, it means land developers and home builders are getting so greedy by building houses everywhere they can stick them that we are forgetting that we need to eat.
I guess it means that buying locally produced farm products will help keep those farmers in business, instead of them selling out to developers of sub-divisions and strip malls.
Really, with the price of land today, if a developer wants it, a farmer doesn’t have much choice. The guy’s netting maybe 18 to 20k per year and somebody offers him a million dollars for his land…whatcha’ gonna’ do?
Buy from local farmer’s markets and CSA programs/support measures that might come up regarding agriculture in your community or else farmers will be forced to sell to developers?
Eat fresh food or Eat chemicals.
If you don’t buy locally produced produce they’ll go bankrupt and have to sell the land so someone can build houses on it
I kinda thought that, too, but houses don’t really have a negative connotation.
or
watch strip malls grow
would’ve made a better imression, I guess.
Maybe not to you, but they definitely do around here. On one side you have the developers who want to buy up land and build houses, and on the you have “land conservation” groups who raise funds to buy the land first so it can’t be developed on. They even get this stuff on the local ballots!
The signs about how we ought to support land conservation because more people mean more school kids and more use of services (aka “oh noes, higher taxes!”) ought to be going up any week now that elections are just a couple months away.
That’s exactly how I interpret it.
