My question is, what does that “suspension” figure, mean? I’m guessing that it means that those two attach points are 30" apart, but I don’t know for sure. And Google is being finicky on me today, so I’ve had no luck there. Can anyone enlighten me?
I think I can get you a little further. The full term is “14 inch suspension bomb ejector”. From what I can tell, that means that the hooks are that far apart. Googling “suspension bomb ejectors” brings up lots of other information.
Former USAF fighter pilot here. You guys got it. Standard US gravity-drop weapons come with suspension lugs on either 14" or 30" fore-aft spacing. The lugs on the bomb fit into retractable hooks in the aircraft plyon or intermediate rack.
I beleive that NATO uses the same spacing. I recall that the Russians (nee Soviets) use a single spacing around 24", though doubtless they specified it in the metric system.
