As a fellow Southerner, former fellow Montgomerian, and fellow “Elmoron” (he’ll know what that means,) even though I don’t personally know Sampiro or any of his family, whenever I read his stories, I “recognize” the people in them.

Oh, definitely seconded. Those were great! Funny, I thought of that "Ask the … " thread when I got my ball python a little while ago. I was all “I haz an exotic animal! How exotic of me!” and then I remembered … oh. I’m not that cool after all.

I think it was supposed to be “14 Kinds of Gas on a Fina Pump Dial”, which is incorrect, the old pumps that would mix in the pump only had something like 8 kinds on the dial, but it is the only thing that would make sense.
The puzzle was for a gear-head audience, but nobody could come up with anything. Not only no doper could come up with anything, but for years, nobody has found an answer. That suggests to me there is no “correct” answer, perhaps because the author made a mistake?
A couple of years ago, I ran across an image of a pump dial that went from 0-14 when I was running down something or another. I don’t remember what I was researching, but when I saw the old gas pump with a dial that went to 14, I thought of that thread (that thread got me hooked on the Dope, btw).
I’m hoping for the 14kofginafpd guy to come back and finally admit he was trolling us all along.

I know we never solved 14 k of g, but for those who missed it, I did eventually speak to someone and resolve the Rebus mystery that took us years. Introduce in 2011, resolved as a futile in 2014.
