What each political cause considers to be acceptable collateral damage

God forbid that I’m actually sticking up for the other side here, but the point is that one side is willing to compel people to behave a certain way, and if that infringes on other people’s perceived liberties, then that’s the collateral damage (from this side’s perspective).

This side literally does not care in the least that there might even be a question of whether or not someone’s rights/liberties/whatever might be being violated in the name of public health- there are bigger fish to fry. So much so, that there are even questions as to whether it’s even a valid concern.

That strikes me as collateral damage for sure.

(FWIW, I’m a pretty rabid mask wearer, but I do understand where the other side is coming from, even if I think it’s an awfully stupid hill to die on)

Thought of another example.

The fearful segment of the Right is so afraid of… something, that they are willing to consider the injustice in policing, be it racial or just false imprisonments/executions as acceptable collateral damage in the context of keeping a lid on things. They’re so fearful that they believe that if we don’t police our communities with a heavy hand, then things are going to go crazy in short order. So the byproducts of this heavy policing hand are collateral damage to them.
