What entertainer do you hate yourself the most for liking?

I think both of you need to get some Swiftamine.

Quentin Tarantino.

I didn’t think I had someone until I saw your post. Pretty much ditto.

Wacky beliefs but damnit, I love his movies.

(Especially Edge of Tomorrow. Go see it. Now.)

Phil Spector. The guy was a total trip to the zoo, but every season when I put on “A Christmas Gift For You” and listen to “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home),” or pretty much ANY “Wall of Sound” recording, I have to say, “Damn! That guy is GOOD!”

Vanessa Redgrave.

She really IS the contemptible communist my conservative brethren think Jane Fonda is. But she’s such a great actress (and such a charmer and, in her youth, such a hottie), I usually find it easy to overlook that while I’m watching her movies. I only remember to hate her after they’re over.

A point in her favor: Charlton Heston worked with her several times in British theater, and they apparently adored each other.

Perez Hilton is slime but I love his Christmas song

What did I miss? Is there some reason I *shouldn’t *like her? Does she put her cats in the microwave or something?

(Though in my book that might be a point in her favor. I kid! I think.)

Collateral was his best movie, IMHO.

Sean Penn. Great Actor, but otherwise a bit of a tool.

Well, since my first two choices have been taken (Tom Cruise and Roman Polanski), I guess I’ll have to go with Gene Simmons. Dude can write (read: rip off) a catchy tune, and despite being such a giant, throbbing dickpenis (or maybe because he’s that selfsame dickpenis) in pretty much every interview he’s ever fucking given, he’s never not completely and utterly compelling.

But Jesus, I feel like I have to delouse every time I listen to or watch one of those interviews.

I can’t think of anyone I like that I’d have moral objections to (except secondhand - I don’t watch Polanski, but I love some actors who’ve worked with him), but there are plenty I should have more taste-induced shame about - Mariah Carey, for one.

But I see nothing wrong with liking Taylor Swift. She’s great.

Kanye. Well, his music. I like his work a lot, but, man, can I not stand his persona/personality. So, I’m not sure that I hate myself for liking his music, but I kinda hate that he’s a total douchebag publicly, and when I say I like him, I have to underline the distinction between “him” and “his music.”

I don’t necessarily hate myself for liking her, but I do enjoy some of Gwynneth Paltrow’s movies despite the fact that she’s simultaneously self-important and vapidly stupid.

After thinking about it, I’d have to say Frank Sinatra. From what I’ve read about him, he could be a real asshole in real life, but man, do I love his music! I also envy him like hell for his high-livin’ lifestyle. Dean Martin was the perfect foil for Frank: free-spirited and easy-going, and oh, so relaxed no matter what the venue.

The rest of my post.

I guess I just thought being “kind of a dick” was a pretty low bar – or, to put it another way, not being kind of a dick is an unreasonably high bar to expect from our entertainers! But I see your point.
