I thought Necco Wafers were dust. Round disks of colored dust.
Dollar Tree has them for a buck a bag. Fresh ones. So fresh the peanut butter squirts out when you bite into them, lubricating your teeth and minimizing unpleasant sticking.
You are a gentleman, a scholar and a man after my own heart. Thank you.
IIRC I recently bought a bag at Walgreens as part of their Candy Classics line.
That’s like saying you could find some discount feces that tastes just as good.
As a kid every year my grandparents would send us a huge bag of those orange and black wrapped abominations. The only thing worse would have been bit o honeys.
What’s not to like about Bit-O-Honeys? Chewy nougat-y honey-flavored taffy, laced with bits of nuts (peanuts?). I haven’t had one or even seen one in years. Now I want one!
We '50s kids did exactly the same thing. These days, I’d be afraid of pulling out my implants.
Another good Halloween candy is Sugar Daddy. You never see that anywhere.
Yeah, I actually love this candy, but the rock hard ones are no fun.
There was that episode of Scrubs where Turk is deliberating all day over what candy bar to get and decides to let the machine speak to him.
So, what’d ya end up with?
Bit O’Honey.
Whatever you do, don’t feed Bit O’ Honey to your dog.
They chew and chew and chew and try to scrape it off the roof of their mouth and teeth with their tongue.
OK, it was really funny when I was 4 or 5. And the dog seemed to like it, or at least she was always up for more.
Since is definitely gone cafe society, I’m going to reminisce too.
I was going to say Slow Poke, Black Cow, White Cow, and Sugar Daddy. I think there was some banana flavored candy like a Slow Poke too.
I loves me some Bit O Honey!
And this Halloween I definitely plan to indulge in some Mary Jane.
Is this the old jingle we used to hear long ago?
Bit O Honey, so nutritious,
Bit O Honey, so delicious!
Or was it some other product?
Dollar Tree around here (W NY) also has Bit O Honey bars. I’ve seen them in IL in Dollar Tree stores as well. You have to look around, but they’re there.
Bit, indeed. Less than 2% honey.
They were around for us 40s kids, too. I used to really like them but nowadays my remaining teeth would lose the battle instantly.
Bit O’ Honney is NOT just “that candy bar they had in the 1980’s.” It is the ONE TRUE candy bar of which all others are pale reflections!
Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find any here recently. I did buy a bag of Mary Janes last week for the candy jar on my desk, but they’re all gone now. I love when the peanut butter squirts out of the fresh ones, but they still don’t compare to Bit O’ Honey. Or Squirrel Nut Zippers, for that matter.
