What ever happened to these phones?

When I was in college, my roommate had a phone that was a combination of a cordless and a cellphone (all-in-one). If you were close to the base station/charger, it was a cordless phone. If you were too far, it was a cell phone. You still needed two accounts and two numbers, but it was all in one neat little unit.

Do these phones still exist, or did they go out with analog?

Actually, funny you should mention that, because in australia we have this new mobile provider. You get your mobile phone, and when you are in/around the area in which you live, the mobile phone acts as a home phone and the call prices are the same as normal fixed line phones, its all a flat rate. But when you are away from the area in which you live, its now a mobile phone. But there rates are cheap. Cheaper than others, and there is also no connection fee.
