In plain English, what did Iran give up in exchange for us relaxing sanctions that makes this agreement a Historic one?:dubious:
Basically they have accepted that they are not going to build a nuclear weapon. This newspaper sums it up fairly well I think:
No, they haven’t. Building a nuclear weapon for them, at best, will be delayed for six months if (and only if) they live up to their agreement. Remember, N. Korea promised the same thing and immediately violated the terms of their agreement.
-
They will not enrich uranium over 5% (need 20% for a weapon) during this six months. However, they can quickly enrich to 20%.
-
They have 10,000 centrifuges which will not remain idle, but have agreed not to enrich over 5% They, however, can continue to use them, in violation of 6 UN resolutions.
This is NOT a historic agreement; it is simply an interim agreement. There may be a successful resolution of the conflict–or there may not.
Did you read your cite? It doesn’t say what you said it says.
