If it has mass and warps space, then to my way of thinking, it’s physical. Hell, even empty space itself is physical.
There was no “organized assembly” of stuff, but there was still a very large amount of stuff in probably some non descript form.
Let us called the galactic blob of future?
Blob would later go speeding across time and space and assemble into more interesting to look at things rather than blob soup.
There was never absolutely nothing as you can not make something from nothing.
Some say no time existed before then, but that is not really true.
A certain measure of time may not have existed because the thing by which is is measured does not exist, but time does not care
(How long is an hour before the earth is formed? Answer it isnt any length the name for the span of time does not exist yet because the thing it will be measured by does not exist, but still that duration of time has passed.
Time does not matter so much when you are devoid of fragile short lived organic beings who dont want to be fragile or short lived.
How did it all come about?
One might say God became aware, and decided blob soup was boring and lonely.
Seems probably as good an answer as any as long as one does not imagine God as George Burns.
Then again we could be sub atomic particles flying around the nucleus of an atom
spinning around with many other atoms in a molecule, held in the trunk of a droopy elephant.
