What fabrics/colors are most sun-fade resistant?

I was thinking of having some cushions custom made to fit my window seats. However, they do get some direct sun late in the day, and they are right up against those big condo windows. What fabrics are less likely to fade? Am I better off with, say, an ivory rather than a sage green? Also, where would I find someone to make these cushions?

Try an upholstery shop. See if they can get fabrics that have UV protection built in.

They should be able to guide you.

Don’t get red.

Sunbrella fabrics are used for marine applications such as bimini tops, sail covers, and cushions. I can vouch for their ability to withstand the most intense tropical sun exposure imaginable without fading significantly, regardless of color. I am considering having window awnings made with Sunbrella fabric installed on my house.

On paper(and cardboard), blue and yellow fade the least. When I worked at Blockbuster, it was easy to see in the coverboxes for the videos - lots of them were just entirely washed out from the sun, eventually, except the blue and yellow. Which, conveniently enough, are Blockbuster’s colors, so all the generic coverboxes with the Blockbuster logo (which we used when the movie’s actual box was missing, damaged or too faded to see) stayed nice looking.

Don’t know if fabric acts the same or not.

Shilling maybe, but spam?

Either way, I think it’s a rules violation.

Well, it’s still there this morning, so either the Mods think there’s enough meaty content there, or they haven’t woken up yet.

Welcome to the Straight Dope Message Board, kianne. We really could use someone with your knowledge and ability to explain things around here. Why don’t you look around and see if any other threads tickle your fancy? Posting in a variety of threads will help people realize that you’re a real person with a real interest in the board, and not just here to sell stuff.

And, of course, if you *are *just here to sell stuff, you can still do that in our Forum called The Marketplace, but you’ll have to pay for a subscription first. It’s how we allow members to share what they’re selling and cut down on spammy posts.

kiane- I knew that Sunbrella doesn’t fade (and would have posted same if I had gotten here first) but I didn’t know why. Are other brands made the same way (like Waverly, etc.)?

White. Although really, since the cushions won’t have items on them for that long during sunny hours - even if you sit on them, it won’t be like having a picture permanently stuck on a wall - fading won’t be a big problem because at least it won’t be uneven. You could turn the cushions round every now and then to vary the sun exposure if you like; that would be good for the cushioning too, of course.

I’ve reported that post too, because it’s clearly a copy and paste of your sales pitch, rather than actually responding to the OP.
