What fictional character did you aspire to be like as a child?

No votes for Batman?

I sooooo wanted to be Batman.

ETA: Yes, Adam West’s Batman. So cool!

Colonel Robert Hogan, US Army Air Corps

I was more the Robin sidekick-type. I thought it would be cool to ride in the Batmobile and get out by walking over the hood. (The studio hands must have been real happy to have to polish it after every take. )

Toss-up between Newkirk the pickpocket and Carter the demolitions expert. :o

I wanted to be Zorro: he could get the win in a straight fight, but he’s just as glad to solve the problem with cleverness and panache. Think of how Bugs Bunny acts like a playful prankster until This Means War — only, uh, in reverse.

And, just to clarify:

George Hamilton’s Zorro.

Princess Leia…who else?

Granted, I did also want to be Laura Ingalls but I’m not sure that counts because I mostly wanted to be her because I was a horse-crazy kid and she got to see horses…every …single …day. Seemed like heaven to me. Now that I’m an adult, I appreciate modern life where I can just own my own horse for fun and not have to depend on her for survival (which would be a mistake in my horse’s case).

Scrooge McDuck. Or maybe Gyro Gearloose. I’d add Gadget Hackwrench too, but that gets a little weird.

The Gay Blade? :dubious:

Kwai Chang Caine of Kung Fu. Capable of violence, disinclined to use it.

Of course. When I was a kid, I was convinced that he was fantastic at stuff in general, and at playing trickster hero in particular, and at enjoying that he’s succeeding like mad; I didn’t know what the word “élan” meant, but I knew he had it.

I also didn’t know what the word “gay” meant, because, again, I was a little kid who thought it was just the equivalent of a live-action Bugs Bunny movie.

So why the dubious confusion? What, like there’s more to life than being incredibly good at doing what matters and having a great time while doing it?

IIRC, there were *two *Zorros in that movie. :stuck_out_tongue:

I wanted to be the Flash. Failing that, Superman. Failing that, whatever comic book I was reading at the moment.

John Steed. Although being Peter Peel after his return could be a better deal.
