Anyone know what other programs I import it into or open with?
(Can you believe I even phoned a computer geek friend about this, and all he could do was guess like I was doing? Dopers are the best!)
Welcome. Bear in mind, though, that there is often considerable overlap when it comes to file extensions, especially when it comes to obvious ones like .log or .doc, for example. The creator of a software package is under no obligation, AFAIK, to ensure the file extensions he decides to use weren’t previously used by another program. Reference sites like FILEExt can sure narrow it down for you, though.
You can try opening it with Notepad or a similar text editor, but odds are it’s binary data, in which case the only software that can read it properly is the one that created it. There may be a free trial/evaluation version of ICE 2000 you can download. I’ll go look.
After looking at your site and re-reading the e-mail, I think it might be map from Microsoft Streets & Trips. That makes a little more sense. (Not having the e-mail, you were at a disadvantage. But, I wouldn’t have gotten this far without your help. So, awesome still fits! )
Now that we’ve narrowed it down a bit, any other ideas? I’m looking for a demo of the Map program now.
It’s largely in the phrasing of your search query. Search engines are stupid, and only know what you say, not what you mean. In this case I did a Google search on Streets & Trips demo, and that’s what came up in the first page of results. If you do a Google search on Google search tips, you’ll come up with pages of good advice on searching.
