For a time, the local Walmarts were selling sodas with Simpsons characters on them. Homer had a generic cola, Lisa had a generic lemon-lime drink (i.e. 7-Up), Bart was on a root beer, and Homer and Maggie graced an orange cream soda that was pretty damn good.
The Marge carrot-broccoli soda, I understand, was not a big seller.
:mad: I should pit you all. I’ve had such a craving for cream soda since I saw the thread title… And I haven’t had it for years!
Went out and bought some.
…Hm… tastes like 95% vanilla 5% cherry. Like just a touch. So if I switch it around in my mouth I get just a sublte “red lollipop” flavour thing happening.
But I’m drinking the “red” pop. I’ve had clear cream soda that was defnitely nothing other than vanilla flavoured.
You know, I’ve always wondered what flavor “Red Cream Soda” is…??? I grew up on Fanta Red Cream Soda (which I can never find anymore) but lately Barq’s has had Red Cream soda available in convenience stores, and it seems to be a staple drink at White Castle.
But I have never tasted “plain” cream soda, so I don’t know if it compares to that flavor, or if it has it’s own.
I only ever saw Barq’s red cream soda in New Orleans, but Winn-Dixie supermarkets have their own store brand of it, Chek red cream soda. It always tastes vaguely banana-like to me, mixed with the vanilla taste of cream soda.
Vanilla is how it’s prepared.

Anyone who’s got a hankering for a cream soda with a distinct vanilla taste should seek out the Jones Soda kind- it’s like there’s a whole vanilla bean (and about half a cup of sugar) in there, and it goes very well with vodka.
I’m rather partial to the IBC brownish one myself.

Nothing constructive to add; I just wanted to say that there’s got to be something special about a place where a discussion of “What flavour is Cream Soda?” accumulates upwards of 30 responses. Especially when the correct answer is included as part of the OP.

This is the best I’ve come across, from a little micro-brewery in Milwaukee.
When I was about 5, a friend of mine told me that Cream Soda causes brain cancer… consequently, I always figured that it tasted like “brain cancer”
Er, the long explanation is probably better done on the various homebrew sites. To make your own, you can
- Use a concentrate, mix with sugar, siphon into clean plastic soda bottles, add a little yeast and wait a day or two. You’ll get a tiny amount of alcohol, but little expense.
- Buy an expensive kegging system, use a concentrate, mix with sugar, siphon into the keg, attach the hoses and Vioila! Soda pop!
