What gives eyes that "fever look"?

You know how when someone has a fever, and their eyes have that kind of sunken, glittery look? What causes that?

(Acid casualties have the “look” too: is that related?)

Just guessing.

Maybe when you have a fever, you don’t eat much, and the higher body temp uses up calories, so you lose fatty tissue around your eyes, so they look sunken, and the fever makes your eyes water a teensy, in self-defense against the heat, so your eyes glitter.

Ditto for the acid users–druggies usually don’t eat much, so you lose fatty tissue around your eyes, and maybe acid makes your eyes water, too, I dunno.

That sounds plausible. Thank you.
