I find I can look at a lot of things without really grossing out. But add smell to the mix and my tolerance level goes way down. I’m curious if this is a universal thing or if other people react differently.
I know that smell is the strongest sense when it comes to recalling events in your life. The smell of an apple pie may remind you of sitting at your grandmothers table. I grew up on my grandfathers farm in Ohio. Here in Mississippi our farms are more for crops and not for animals. Anyway, three years ago I went to Lancaster, PA with my son and his girl friend. We were hunting for a mill and a house that our ancestors had built. In the process we stopped at several farms to ask directions. Each time my son and the girl complained about the smell. To me it brought back memories of my childhood and I didn’t mind it at all.
Smell definately… anything gross makes me want to gag when I smell it. Sight I can handle mostly but add smell and I lose my cookies.
I don’t mind farm smells too much as long as they aren’t overpowering… I didn’t grow up on a farm or anything but I can recall when I was small going out to the barn with my Great Uncle to look at the cows and I love horses too… I want to own horses someday.
Smells. I can handle sights(hell,I’ll even go out of my way to see something bad.
But smells can linger with me for days, turning my stomach each time I remember it
Smell. But I know someone who would answer sight: my LO. She could easily handle the smell of vomit, for example, but the sight of it would make her throw up. (This makes the question of who cleans up after dog illnesses and so forth quite easy. If it smells worse than it looks, she cleans it up. If it looks worse than it smells, I do.)
There’s a reason, though. She’s got a very poor sense of smell. And I think that’s what you’ll find with this survey - only people with substandard senses of smell will be more icked out by sights.
