Likely because cats don’t tend to be the fawning type.
I wanted to be clear, I did not accuse you of being a troll, but of being a victim of race based propaganda. Nothing will please the GOP more than a low turn out among people of color in November.
Can you give us some examples?
I’ve seen him call folks here anti-democratic. I’ve seen him call posters hypocritical, even stupid. But I don’t think I’ve seen him call a poster “immoral” in the course of an argument. I could have missed it, so I did a search on “Bricker” and “immoral”, and while I didn’t look at all the hits, the only ones I saw were of other posters calling him or his position “immoral” (other than references to things done or said by folks who are not posters here).
Isn’t the common complaint about Bricker that he focuses too much (exclusively?) on the legal rather than the moral aspects of issues?
Exactly. Republicans are certain in their beliefs; Democrats are pigheaded dogmatists. Republicans are firm; Democrats are stubborn. Republicans know what’s best for Americans; Democrats are dictatorial authoritarians. Republicans will do what’s necessary to win; Democrats are underhanded and deceptive.
^Quote that, right-wingers, and you thereby reveal the limits of your IQ.
Remember the “Dean Scream” in 2004? Republicans branded Howard Dean as “angry” and pontificated that people wouldn’t vote for an angry candidate. Now, anger is the hallmark of Trumpism and the Trump party. If you are not angry at liberals, immigrants, gays, uppity minorities, unsubmissive women and any group they have targeted as “other”, you are a RINO. Anger is now patriotic.
Take the “L” and stop. You’re only making yourself look bad and yes, you are racist. Maybe not as racist as the intelligence arguers, but still not a good place to be. You’re grasping at straws and your continued denial, along with dogged inability to maybe get that a person of color could, RIGHT NOW IN THIS TIME IN HISTORY be very fucking concerned about this issue, makes you blind to your prejudices. Why deny his experience? You were one of the white feminists decrying the sexism and yet uphold the very white viewpoint of this board and yet here you are. Trying to silence one of the few POC and I’m sure you’ll keep on denying that’s what you’re doing.
Tough to know how much Facebook and Twitter have influenced this. Certainly being permanently-furious has been a path to success on those platforms for many; in 2004 there weren’t that many places where non-stop screaming would be rewarded, outside of professional wrestling, maybe.
The ‘anger is patriotic’ thing is surely limited by human physiology; won’t strokes and such be slowing down at least some of the Rage Brigade? I guess we’ll find out.
FWIW I have seen what racists on the board do and confronted them too, and also in a few threads that Huey Freeman linked too. Point is that Guinastasia is not that; only that, at most, she can be just wrong about what Huey is.
BTW as the last issue that drove the complain from Huey is about OJ being guilty or not, thing is that one can be against racists 24/7 and still realize that OJ was guilty.
I’m far from guin’s bestie but that’s not what she did. She didn’t doubt a so-called “person of color.” She doubted, with the language being used by the “person of color”, if the person of color was actually for real. I hope you see the distinction as it’s a real distinction and not hard to miss. But it’s the Pit and searching for and more importantly creating conflict is the whole point of the place.
Again, with the “Summoning Jutsu.”.
Why not have fun and switch it up with other Jutsus like “Shadow Clone Jutsu”?
Accuracy. I demand accuracy.
That’s a very good point, octopus.
If I post “I’m Maori” and someone posts in response “I don’t believe you’re Maori,” and I reply “then you are an anti-Maori bigot,” … well, that is a fail for me. Skepticism about a status claimed on the Internet is not the same thing as bigotry against people who have that status.
What a cutie!
Disagreeing with someone is not trying to silence them, just like knowing that there is enough water in blood to tighten leather does not make one a racist. But so what?
I cannot speak for Guin, but I am an American of primarily European descent who believes women have the same capabilities and rights, and should be treated with the respect accorded any man with similar abilities. So, I am white, a feminist, and, yeah, a racist, because I am a product of my culture.
Do I assume all black men are criminals? Only if they are wearing expensive suits on Federal St.
Do I assume all black women have five children with different fathers? Not unless they work in a children’s services organizations.
Do I believe all well-spoken black men and women are a credit to their race? Well, yeah, the human race.
Look, I know I have internalized all those decades of subtle racism in my culture. I can’t undo that. All I can do is be polite and vote.
And I will vote, no matter how many nasty posts and articles I see about racist white liberals, because I am old, and suspicious, and know to always think about who benefits from divisiveness.
Well, you know what they say…
(He/she is adorable!)
I think that this is what it really comes down to. Bricker really really likes to argue. So much so that he made a career out of it. And one of the things the law and high school debate have in common is that you don’t choose a side to argue because you believe its correct, you choose a side because its assigned to you. Now of all the internet, the SDMB is probably one of the best places to get into an argument. But it is the case that the board leans left, so if one wants to argue rather than fall into a love/gripefest, you have to take the right side. If that means arguing in favor of Jim Crow 2.0, that employees should be willing to sacrifice their lives for their employer and that if you can’t afford health care the world is better off without you, than so be it. The greater the challenge the greater the glory.
If the Free Republic was where all the smart kids hung out, than I’m sure Bricker would be hanging out on that board arguing for universal healthcare and labor unions.
Curious.
Do you think your example is representative of what was said? As in, the response chain was:
Huey: I’m a person of color
Guin: I don’t believe you’re a person of color
Huey: Then you are bigot against people of color
No explanation is needed, wanted, or desired; a simple yes or no will suffice.
Thank you.
Sort of - it was HelenTroy who made the bigotry accusation, not you.
FWIW I more or less disagree with Guinastasia - it is possible that you are a PoC *as well as *a race-baiting fruitcake. The two are not as incompatible as they should be.
if you were hopeful that simply announcing that you are a person of color would insulate you from being thought of a troll, that will probably work with many on the SDMB, but you need to be careful not to offend against some group other than whites, like gays or transgender people or women. Extremists eat their young, and eventually your one trick will not garner you attention and you will have to up the ante.
I have been here a while, and I have uppped my ante. So up yours.
Regards,
Shodan
Interesting.
If pointing out White fragility is “race baiting”, what would saying Black people are genetically inclined to low IQs be? Just Asking…
