What happened to Bricker?

OK - you’re an idiot.

Regards,
Shodan

Talk about redundant. I mean, you already have the “fuck you” at the bottom of every post.

What I’m talking about is a forum user telling people whether or not they may post, or issuing commands on what they may post. If a mod says that’s perfectly acceptable at the SDMB, then it’s perfectly acceptable. But, will one say so?

I see.

nm

From now on I will picture Shodan as Rex Kramer - Danger Seeker.

Better that than picturing him as a Catholic High School girl in trouble.

Good poster, have a cookie.

We’re in the pit, where people issue commands to each other all the time. I mean, get out of here with that weak-ass bullshit, or at least shut the fuck up and listen to others; if you’re gonna post here, bring a better game.

Prediction: I won’t get modded for any of that, unless Miller thinks it’d be funny.

Do you think your post is relevant to the discussion you cut in on? No explanation is needed, wanted, or desired; a simple yes or no will suffice.

Obviously that was a quote from Bricker, inserted here to make a point.

What the fuck are you talking about?

I’m talking about this: Is it acceptable to ask other posters a question and instruct them that they may answer only with a yes or no?

Do we have to answer that “yes” or “no”?

Heh.

I really would like to know the answer, though. After several years of reading and then posting here, I genuinely have believed that posters are not permitted to tell others that they can’t post or that they can post only particular words. Of course no one is required to follow the commands of another poster (only the commands of moderators and administrators). Still, I was under the impression that issuing the commands was, in itself, considered to be unacceptable conduct here.

But I’m ready to learn whether or not that’s the case, when the moderators let us know.

He didn’t tell you what not to post. It was more him telling you he wasn’t interested in anything beyond “yes” or “no”. But even if he did “tell you to stop posting something”, this is the Pit. You’re allowed to do lots of things here that would garner moderation in the other forums.

True enough about the Pit being different.

However, I’m still interested to see the ruling on whether or not it’s fine to post that a particular participant in a thread may post only ‘yes’ or ‘no,’ in this forum or in the others.

What I can tell you is that Big Red chewing gum always reminds me of my granddad. Lemme explain: you can tell me what you need, want, and desire, without sanction, and I can answer with some bullshit anecdote about gramps, also without sanction. Viva la revolucion!

Do you understand me? YOU MAY ONLY ANSWER WITH A YES OR A NO, AND EVERY OTHER ANSWER IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN, AND ANSWERING IS MANDATORY!!!

As I said:

So you agree with half of what I said. What about the other half?

Shodan, do you think Senator Booker – who you describe as lacking in integrity and self-control – qualifies as an n-word, by your criteria?

Sure.

A simple question with a request that it be answered in a particular way is fine.
Your correspondent, of course, is under no obligation to respond in a particular way or to respond, at all.

What you are not allowed to do is disrupt the thread with unceasing calls for the answer you want, pursuing your target with repeated demands that they answer/behave in a way stipulated by you, or repeatedly bringing up the question in multiple threads, either demanding the answer or accusing your target of failing to respond to your demands.

It may be permissible to indicate that you note that they have not responded to your question or that they have done so in a way that you have not indicated that you wished. However, one needs to be careful with that sort of action lest it indicate that you are harassing your target.
