I liked her in films like Beetlejuice, Hero, Long Kiss Goodbye but haven’t seen her in a film in a long time.
Is it simply loss of sex appeal with aging?

The Long Kiss Goodnight and Cutthroat Island were bombs, and she apparently wasn’t compelling enough to get past that and the fact that she is no longer twenty. She had a short-lived TV series which didn’t launch a career revival.
And really, when you get right down to it, she’s not Meryl Streep, and Meryl Streep seems to be getting all the Meryl Streep roles. There is some unwritten Hollywood rule that only a handful of projects will be made each year for actresses over 40. (If they wrote the rule down, they’d get sued.)
The Long Kiss Goodnight was a valiant attempt to become a female action hero, and I liked it. But apparently the 18-25 male demographic didn’t.
Helen Mirren gets the occasional role.
When Susan Sarandon, Geena Davis, and Sigourney Weaver are all potentials for a role, they never pick Geena.
I think she is just busy being a mom. She had twins at almost 50 yrs of age.
On September 1, 2001, Davis married Reza Jarrahy, anIranian-Americanplastic surgeon. At age 46, Davis gave birth to their daughter Alizeh Keshvar (born April 10, 2002). At age 48, she hadtwin boys, Kian William Jarrahy and Kaiis Steven (born May 6, 2004).
Not only was Cutthroat Island a bomb, it was one of the biggest bombs of all time…and it followed the not-very-successful movie Speechless, which I don’t think I’d ever even heard of before checking Davis’s IMDb entry just now. If Long Kiss Goodnight had been even modestly successful then maybe things would have worked out differently for her, but it’s not really surprising that after three bombs in a row she was no longer considered a bankable star.
I don’t know anything about Davis’s personal life beyond what’s in her Wikipedia entry, but it’s possible that once she had children (her oldest was born in 2002) she decided it wasn’t worth trying to work her way back up to being a major Hollywood star. Her husband is a plastic surgeon, so the family is presumably pretty comfortable even without Davis getting a lot of work as an actress.
She also tried out for the Olympics in archery a while back.
She was great in A League of Their Own, even though Dottie clearly dropped the ball on purpose.
14 years ago('99), anyway, but she did attempt to make the team.
After that, she had that show where she was President(2005), but it nosedived and that was it.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
I’m kicking dirt all over your home plate, ump! This call is bogus! My grandmother calls a better game than you and she’s dead! Would you like to borrow my glasses, ump? Because you clearly need them!

Anyway, was Geena Davis ever all that popular? The Fly was great. And, of course, A League of Their Own. Oh, and The Long Kiss Goodnight was awesome. But I can’t say I ever thought of her as a major star.
…and Thelma and Louise was great, and she won an Oscar for The Accidental Tourist.
But my wife and I always wondered if she just had a really good agent.
I don’t know if “major star” is exactly right, but she had a run there (from “The Fly” in '86 through “A League of Their Own” in '92) where she was the lead or co-lead in a number of big, popular movies.
Well, that honeymoon must’ve sucked.
And he can, um, fix a lot of age-related problems for her, too.
Bombs or night, unless she has been a serious spendthrift I assume she is very wealthy and never has to work another day in her life. She’s an Oscar winner and was a bankable lead for a reasonable stretch of time by Hollywood standards. That generally translates into big paydays, whether her films were flops or not - in fact her big paydays may in some cases have increased the magnitude of the flops ;).
On a quick check, the unerringly accurate ( ) internet claims her net worth at $38 million.
My friends got married the weekend after September 11 and honestly, it wasn’t all that bad. They considered postponing, but everything was booked, including their flights for their honeymoon.
I sometimes mock my girlfriend, who never curses, for liking Long Kiss Goddnight which has so much cursing that it includes a scene about how much cursing there is.
I thought so to. I’m surprised to hear it’s supposed to be a flop.
I know Cutthroat Island was a HUGE bomb and the studio that produced it folded and went bye-bye - but the film is really not all that horrible. Not great - but for an action adventure it was OK.
Then again, I though Waterworld was also not that wretched - and kind of liked it back when I first saw it in the movie theaters but I digress…
Thelma and Louise was great.
Before would’ve been worse, I think. There you are, having a good time and… well, I know what that day did to my mood.
