What Happened to Geena Davis?

It didn’t hurt Hugh Laurie on** House**.

“Chefs do that.”

Long Kiss Goodnight is a favorite of mine and I think if more people knew it existed, it wouldn’t have been a flop. I stumbled upon it on cable by accident one night. The Dope is the only place where others besides my husband and I have even heard of it. I think that after the debacle of Cuthroat Island the studio buried this movie.

Also, I did not know that Geena Davis was almost 60! Damn, she looks good.

I first heard about Long Kiss Goodnight in an article in the now-defunct magazine Spy. It was described as an upcoming project by Shane Black, who was noted for his successes in Lethal Weapon and Lethal Weapon 2 but also his failures in The Last Boy Scout and Last Action Hero.

Strangely, Spy seemed to have the impression that the Geena Davis character’s amnesia extended to forgetting that she was actually (or had formerly been) a man, i.e. “she’s a he and doesn’t know it.” Perhaps this was an idea kicked around in early draft, but it would have to have jettisoned when they decided the character had given birth to a daughter.

So 57 is almost 60. Remind me of that the next time I pay a bill.

“We’re glad you’re paying in cash for the house. Please give us a check for $60,000.”

“Here’s a check for $57,000.”

“That’s not a complete payment.”

“It’s close enough. 57 is almost 60.”

Are you really arguing that saying someone who is 57 is “almost 60” is wrong? If so, I think you’d be the first.

Seeing as how I don’t know anyone who accepts “close enough” when paying bills (“Sir, the bill was $33.77 and you gave $33.25”… “Close 'nuff”) I don’t see your point.

Would you say that a 7-year-old is almost 10?

Would you not say that a 97-year old is almost 100?
Why do you constantly act like a robot who does not understand human speech?

Wendell: 57 is 95% of 60
7 is only 70% of 10

Good lord, people. Give it a rest.

Redacted.

Geena Davis always struck me as a good egg - smart, talented, funny, attractive in an unconventional way. I remember her from Tootsie and Fletch and of course the very good A League of Their Own. Commander in Chief was a failed, one-note and semi-feminist West Wing IMHO, but she wasn’t bad in it.

Based on the recommendations here, I’ve now ordered The Long Kiss Goodnight from my library. Thanks!

The Long Kiss Goodnight is one of my favourite films.
That it bombed is unbelievable.

Pity me. Maybe I can have a telethon or something.

I LIKED Commander in Chief.

‘When you make an assumption, you make an ass out of you and umption.’ Part of my repertoire. Also, ‘We do that.’

I was unaware that it bombed. Too bad. It’s a better film than Cutthroat Island. I’d have liked to have seen more of Geena Davis (Eh? Eh? Know what I mean?) but I really liked her character.

It ain’t no ham on rye, pal.

The line. as I mentioned earlier, is “chefs do that.” it’s on right now on Cinemax.

Didn’t read the first page, so I didn’t see it. I stand corrected, but I adapt it to my own use.

Geena Davis, 57, slips into her famous League Of Their Own baseball costume 21 years after starring in hit film | Daily Mail Online Here’s a current article that just popped up about her, incl. a picture of her sporting the A League of Their Own uni again and some info on what she’s been up to

Just saw it. It was OK, I guess. Not great, not terrible. Jackson had some funny lines, but there’s no way his character could still be alive at the end (or Davis’s, I suppose).
