so…what does 0304 mean anyway?
I’ve heard of 304 being used to mean ho as in hoe upside down …on a calculator
I think she IS doing this to prove that she can. I saw an interview where she said something like, “I’ve proven myself as an artist, and now I want to have a little fun.” So yes it’s a big marketing ploy. I don’t think it’s really a parody, though, it’s just a “let’s see what happens”.
I get that impression, too. Wouldn’t surprise me to see another change of direction in her next album.
I look forward to her Nashville Skyline phase.
It did give an Asian American poet the chance to release a parody of her book that was pretty freakin funny.

The funny thing is that his book of poetry is not only much better, but according to him he wrote it all freeform in a matter of hours, basing every poem off the title of Jewel’s poems and going from there.
This image of Beau Sia cracks me up:
I totally agree with Kyomara. I was never convinced by her “folksy” image. I was unmoved by her stories about living out of her van in Alaska. And her voice and sappy lyrics annoyed me.
Her new pop song is awful. Abysmally bad. If she had any sense of artistic integrity or substance, though, I might think she’s being clever and poking fun at the whole Britney/Xtina/etc. culture.
But I don’t detect any irony in her stance. Just shallowness, which isn’t anything new.
It reminds me of Vertical Horizon. I remember them when they were two guys with acoustic guitars. Then , they made it big by adding a ‘pop’ image to their act, as well as a rhythm section.
Thing is, their lyrics are pretty consistent with what they were- and that’s why I still like them.
I used to really like Jewel. Good sound, pretty good lyrics. Now…she just plain stinks.
I know nothing about Jewell, but she’s been bugging me for weeks anyway.
“Hands”, or whatever it’s called, was on the radio and it got stuck in my head. It appears on my mental playlist at the strangest times. When I’m working on a knife and there are sparks flying all over the place, power tools roaring, a hammer smashing down on hot metal, and other macho type things going on I want some Ministry, maybe some Motorhead, something loud and in keeping with the setting.
I get Jewell.
I’m firing my subconcious dj.
Just curious, since I haven’t seen the video, or her since whenever, but does she still have the snaggletooth, or did she get it fixed to go along with her new “pop” image?
I hate this “Alternate Jewel” - she had the potential to be another Sheryl Crow, but she wants to be Britney Spears.
I hate “Intuition” it just sounds wrong, coming from Jewel.
I agree completely… I tried really hard to like her second album, but I just couldn’t. After a few months I sold it with no regrets. I think my experience with Jewel mirrors yours and Mr. Frink’s most closely.
And to make it even worse, I woke up with “Intuition” in my head this morning. It took repeated plays of Fatboy Slim’s “Give the Po’ Man a Break” to finally bang it out. Agh!
FriarTed - I realized after the fact that my thread title could be taken that way – “Damn!” in a good way – but hey, she does have nice legs… ahem
[Trite and obvious joke]
Excuse me Jewel, but Gwen Stefani called. She wants her wardrobe, image, and sound back.
chortle
I was thinking about that, but I actually think Gwen sounds better. I’m not even a big Gwen Stefani/No Doubt fan, but they sound better these days than Jewel does.
Gods, I hate saying that…
she still does have the snaggletooth, which for some reason I find to be damn sexy
I also thought it was charming that she choose not fix it
tho my brother did point out that if she had it fixed, she’d have to have all her upper teeth realigned to fill the gap & if this tooth really doesn’t give her problems, she has no reason to go thru the trouble
For those who think they haven’t heard “Intuition”, you probably have. You just didn’t realize it was Jewel because it sounds nothing like anything she’s released before.
The comparisons to Gwen Stefani and No Doubt are apt. That’s who I originally thought “Intuition” had been released by until I saw the video.
I swear to god that was a quote on the bottom of the screen from a viewer on VH1, followed by a bunch of !!!. (The VH1 where they play videos all day, not the other one)
I will say one good thing about the video; I like the homemade video -> slick production value effect. That’s
