One moment she was telling us how much she was loving The Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy books, and the next she was gone. Where is she? Does anyone know? I wanna hear her impressions of Life The Universe and Everything.
Maybe she was obliterated as a bystander to a Brockian Ultr Cricket match?
Oh no, not again.
She was locked inside a Slo-Time™ envelope.
I have a few peices of the key already. Still looking for the plastic pillar…
I spoke to her via IM I think Saturday, maybe she’s busy.
Wow! I’m touched! And not in that pervy kind of way. (Unless you want to) and not in the crazy in the head kind of way. (that’s what the voices tell me anyway)
Joeski, I am halfway through that book, they just got to the flying building. Good read!
Can’t wait for the movie to come out this summer!!! And I was wondering if you knew anything about the mini series. Any good? follow the books, or their own being?
I have a hard time posting to the boards. I think I have issues with spyware or a virus. Everytime I post I get 50 IE windows pop up and freeze up my computer.
So, next week we are saving what we can and starting over.
I keep in touch with folks through IM, so feel free to message me anytime.
This is so cool! I am truly amazed! Joeski, you have just made my day!
Damn. I missed several great opportunites to quip some Adams references. I’m slipping, and was never up to begin with. Story of my life.
Well, it’s great to see you’re doing well Kricket. I was thinking there may have been an accident with your sudden absence in the HGTTG thread. I’ve had these kind of computer problems before, and unfortunately, the best thing you can do is find a good friend to help you save a few things before he eradicates every little blip of information downloaded, and at the end of the day buy him a case of beer for his help. Last time I was in this kind of dill my friend told me my PC had around 4 viruses in it, not to mention loads of spyware. It was real ugly.
I think Life The Universe and Everything is one I read more than once. I love the bit with Arthur and Agrajag…and the interaction between Marvin and the Mattress in chapter 7. Cripes…now I feel like reading some Douglas Adams…or Terry Pratchett.
glances at recently purchased Thief of Time copy
No. Not untill I slog through Bonfire of the Vanities. Bleh.
Where was I? Oh yes, Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. The miniseries is required viewing and perhaps owning to a hardcore fan, but I’m not sure I could reccomend it to anyone else. It was made in the early 80s, and though they did the best they could with it for the time, the makeup and costumes still look silly, and sometimes flat out bad. With the exception of Simon Jones as Arthur, the casting wasn’t so hot either. For Trillian, they picked some curly blond haired woman that looks like a stripper with too much make-up. Zaphod didn’t look right either.
With having said that, it is faithful, though includes a few funny orginal moments, contains much better narriation than I ever thought could be done (given that’s where a good deal of HGTTG’s humor lies and all), and has a great theme song which is perfect for the series and worth trekking down online. Also, the DVD has some really good special features on the second disc. I’m glad I own a copy.
I like it…but I’m sure I would have liked it even if they had done it with stick figures and sock puppets.
The movie has been my most anticipated flick for a while. I plan on buying a movie poster as soon as I can get my greasy little hands on one. Sin City is another movie I’m really looking forward to.
Glad to make the days of others. I’m this close to developing a god complex
.
Dangit!
It’s no fun if’n you give us permission!
Hands off! I believe the lady was talking to me
.
If you want to fight about it, meet me under the clock at the town square at noon for a showdown.
Now, now boys I’m sure we can figure something out here.
No need to argue. (even though I kinda like it a little)
If you can, get the spyware/adware cleaned out by a professional local computer servicer & ask them to install some free (or at least inexpensive) blocking & cleaning software. That’s what I needed to have done.
Every ititeration of HHGTTG is different than the one before it, by Adams’ own design. (Well, except for his own unabridged audio version of the novel. That’s the same as the novel, surprisingly enough.) He was an endless tinkerer, and didn’t believe in continiuty of story. Each media, he thought, deserved it’s own HHGTTG.
He wrote at least one new character for the upcoming movie, to be played by John Malkovich ( ) and apparently quite approved of Warwick Davis’ casting and the new Marvin design. (  ).
