What happened to my niece’s nose? (Medical but not seeking advice) TMI

You said it was in a Japanese restaurant; I’m very picky and insist on knowing what’s in food I eat when eating out (what they divulge, anyway). Of the 3 foods mentioned, the soup was a strong suspect. Just like some people like shrimp which makes me heave thinking about it, and others like eating crabs alive, there’s always something trendy in hip restaurants - here in my city it’s squid ink. You couldn’t get me to try it for love or money, but it’s the cool thing to do here. So, maybe something in vogue in the soup that your family either didn’t know or care, and not a normal part of a Western diet, was the culprit for the allergy trigger.

This is a stupid question but does she actually use a neti pot at all?

Reason I had to ask… I’ve used one and sometimes even though I thought I’d done everything properly, I get a sudden and unexpected drainage of my sinuses later in the the day - just drainage of the saline I used for the rinse, but some of our sinuses are indeed ‘buckets’ that can fill up and stay filled until you tilt your head in a particular way, or yawn and make your ears go pop, or whatnot

Maybe the ‘white tuna’ in the sushi was escolar instead of albacore.

Not that I know of. But it is interesting (or scary) to know that that can happen.

I love superwhite tuna, but likely because I had my gallbladder removed I cannot eat it. My gf doesn’t mind eating my share when we get an assortment.

It’s not exactly bad when it happens, just mortally embarrassing if it happens in public, even though what comes out is little more than clear (warm) saline.

Happens quite a bit when you grow up in the sub-tropics and spend much time as a kid in various weird postures underwater in backyard swimming pools. Afterward it pays to bend right over so your head is upside down, then back up, then repeat a couple of times. Normally does the trick.
