What happened to poor lil Boba Fett?---- Spoilers, you have been warned.

I hold to my firm conviction that Natalie Portman is the death of that movie; remove her from the frame and it improves a thousandfold. Seriously, pay attention next time. Any moment she appears, the movie gets bad.

I can think of any number of scenes with Hayden that were pretty good. I can’t think of any with Natalie that are watchable (except for those dealing with her nipples–they should feature a stronger part in the next movie  ).

Well, the part of me that still has a sense of drama/ tragedy still believes that Padme Amidala’s death has something to do with turning Anakin into Vader. AOTC showed that he tends to react badly when those he loves are hurt or killed. Since the only person who now falls into that category is Padme, I think it’s going to be her. Also, we have to get rid of Dooku somehow, and having Anakin be the one who kills him (and turning to the Dark Side in the process) is a nice bookend to what the Emperor was trying to do to Luke in ROTJ.

Vader not knowing about Leia is a good point, and one that does raise a timing issue. But I don’t think there are going to be dramatically significant events between Episode III and Episode IV that aren’t on screen.

Wasn’t there a story somewhere in the canon about Boba escaping the Sarlacc pit after it nearly eats away his armor by chunking grenades into it and blowing himself out?

I could have sworn I read that in one of those short story books.

Yup, he pisses off the Sarlaac so it squeezes him and activates his jetpack which blows up and send him full force upward. Then he just has to dig himself out of the sand with bits of his jetpack in his spine.

Yeah, Fett gets out of the Pit. He’s helped to get better by Dengar (another bounty hunter-the guy with the bandaged head in the bounty hunter scene in The Empire Strikes Back) and a slave dancer.

Later on, he returns in his new ship and turns his weapons on the Pit.

AOTC makes Boba Fett out to be some kind of latter-day Charles Dickens character.

I agree that he’ll probably raise himself to some degree, he already seemed to have a good grasp of the ship’s weapons and was willing to help his father fight, he looked to be enjoying it even. He has to be traumatized by seeing Jango beheaded, his father/“himself” dying in such a brutal, sudden way. That trauma, his possible knowledge that he is a clone himself, Jango’s early training of him, and maybe an amoral or isolated upbringing to come would make for one majorly screwed up, cold-blooded bounty hunter.

I was actually quite disappointed that Jango lost his head (ummm, ahem). I was kind of hoping that he’d only have, like, half of his left hand cut off. Then he could have taught himself a new style of fingering the guitar (or whatever plucked-and-strummed stringed instrument they used a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away), and embarked on a new, non-violent career as a jazz musician.

Ha, ha, ha! But of course he’d still be accused of complicity with the Empire, albeit as a musician. All those gigs he willingly accepted at the Death Star, you know…

The problem with Boba Fett has, and always will be, that he’s a minor character, something a lot of Star Warns fanatics have long since forgotten. Which means that there’s no chance of him having a big role in Episode 3. (Lemme just say right now that I never understood this guy’s appeal…he’s a laconic bounty hunter, and he was eventually hired by a vindictive Hutt. Lots of characters in either or both categories that didn’t get anywhere near the press he did.)

Yes, yes, I know that there are books (quite a few of them) where he’s the star…the simple fact is, in the movies, he’s not, and no one wants to give him any more of the spotlight than is necessary. Remember, too, that he’s not subject to accelerated aging like the other Jango clones, so he’ll still be quite young in Episode 3…old enough for those old enemies to fester and grow, yes, but probably not old enough to be in the bounty hunter business.

My guess is that he has one little scene that shows him dealing with the aftermath of being parentless, lonely, and bitter, and he hints toward rising from the ashes in the future. Then the movie gets back to the business of Anakin’s descent into darkness.

Oh, yes, I can see his new career now…

“I’m Jango the Fett, the 12th Gung-Ho Gun! Prepare to die… VASH THE STAMPEDE!”

Apologies for anyone who didn’t get that.

Yeah, I thought about that last night too. As dramatic and symmetrical as Boba killing Mace would be, I just wouldn’t buy it. Boba’s not going to be more than 13-15 by the time of the next movie. Mace took down a full-grown Jango with ease. (ok, with a little bit of help from the Reek, but still). I don’t think an adolescent version would be a problem for him.

Oh, Boba probably couldn’t kill Mace Windu in a one-on-one fight, but nevertheless, he might still be able to take him down. Boba does till own the Slave I. I imagine those concussion bombs would most likely obliterate Mace Windu.

And most of the Jedi temple, too.

I guess, but what a lousy, unheroic way that would be to go. Might as well drop a moon on him.

In an interview on Conan O’Brien, Samuel L. Jackson said that the only thing he has insisted to Lucas is that he doesn’t go out like a punk. So I expect an intense one-on-one fight, probably with Dooku or Anakin.

gasp

I don’t know why the possibility never occurred to me before, but it’s never even crossed my mind that Anakin might kill Mace. If he does, why, that just wrecks the entire premise of ROTJ for me, because there’s no way ANYTHING Darth Vader does after that could redeem him. Killing the Emperor, saving Luke, turning the whole shebang over to the Rebels – that does NOTHING to make up for killing the baddest ass (bad assiest?) Jedi ever. Sheesh.

Yeah right. How many “only things” has he insisted on?

Thanks for making me snarf milk all over my computer!

What about all the scenes with her appearing a bit too cold in that skintight white jumpsuit?

Well, he did get a different (purple) colored light saber, which he claims he pestered Lucas for. But I see your point, in that SLJ probably has a lot of things he would want his character to do. But I think he meant that, above all, he doesn’t want to go out like a punk.

Jackson doesn’t want to go out like a punk?

What are the chances Lucas planned for him to snuff it with a safety-pin in his nose and and a spike in his arm, anyway?
