Fortunately, (for me) I didn’t bother to read the majority of the earlier novels, because they just looked lame. But as far as novels written by women, Dark Journey may be one of my favorite complete novels in the SW genre. Beyond that is I, Jedi and, well, all of the X-Wing books. They just rock.
And another problem with Boba Fett is, as stated earlier, not a lot of attention was kept during the earlier novels, which means they are actually conflicting stories. I know of two different way Boba escaped the Saarlak, but Lucas, in his amazing omnipotent storytelling genius, has said repeatedly that as far as he’s concerned, Boba died in the Pit.
However, I do think the Bounty Hunter Wars series was pretty good, so I’ll go with what’s in them.
And thanks for the vote of confidence there, delphica, I’d nearly forgotten that long conversation we had those many months ago on SW.
By the way, have you read the book after Traitor yet? I wanted to get it but it’s only out in bloody hard-back. Costs too damn much.
You can’t go comparing what happened in the books with the movies and hope to get something that makes sense anymore because Lucas is trying his hardest to fight anyone else having any kind of creative branching out on his baby. I mean, wasn’t the whole extra ending in Jedi put in there as a way of his saying “This is the end, everything people wrote after this never happened”?
The Star Wars books are like any other kind of device where multiple writers come in. Like with comic books, writer A has a great story idea involving Character A, but before he can write it, writer B comes along and kills Character A in his book. So, when Writer A gets his chance, he somehow brings Character A back to life, consistancy be damned. So, there are inconsistancies between books, and between movies and books. And, as we’ve all seen with these last two movies, inconsistancies between films as well.
With all that said, I believe it could go either way. Lucas will either leave Bobba out of the picture all together, or, with the knowledge that Bobba Fett is one of SW fans’ biggest lures, make up some excuse to have him age enough in years and experience to show up in the film and kill a bunch of Jedi. Shit, with the stupidity Lucas has shown lately, it’s possible that he’ll have Bobba adopted by Dooku or Sidyus and use that as an explaination as to why he’s able to combat Jedi so much.
As for Padme…I agree that for consistancy’s sake, she should live through the next film, but for some reason, I see Anakin bumping her off. I’m really dreading how Lucas is going to handle Anakin’s turn/betrayal. I mean, sure, we all know it’s coming, but the way things stand at the end of AOTC, there’s still a lot of character developement that needs to take place before that fully happens, and I don’t think 2 hours is enough to do all that, plus wipe out the Jedi and bring the Republic to it’s knees and whatever else is supposed to happen.
This is what I tell my son and my husband when they get into an arguement over what is right: According to Lucas, the movies are canon.
You would not believe the dust up that occured in my household over the Death Star plans in AOTC. They shouldn’t have been there. Moff Tarkin thought up the Death Star long after the Clone Wars according to my son. My husband insists that those plans were not for a death star, but for the Eye of Palpatine.
I was also under the impression that no one in Episode One really remembers The Clone Wars-- husband says I don’t know what I’m talking about. Which I don’t. I’m only related to the fanatics.
Destiny’s Way? I got it from the library-it’s pretty good, even if the author didn’t do his research very well.
The X-Wing series ROCKS. The Wraiths are my all time favorite characters-especially Face Loran and Ton Phanan. Face is, the sexiest fictional character in existance!
But, as I’ve said before, the back stories for Boba, like him being Jaster Mereel, could simply be his way of going incognito-he took a different name for a time.
Oh, and the books ARE canon-the Expanded Universe, (aka the EU), is canon-the movies come first, though. Anything that doesn’t have an Infinities label is considered canon.
Check out the EU section. I post there a lot. It will help explain things, Biggirl. And if you and your family have any questions about the EU-feel free to e-mail me. I’m a Completist, as opposed to a Purist, so I know a lot about the EU.
As for the DS plans, it is feasible that Palpy had an idea for it, but needed a great many to come up with blueprints and ways to build it. It would take more than one person, so there’s plenty of room for Qwi Xux and Bevel Lemelisk.
