I used to live in the Portuguese area of Sydney (Petersham), and often dined at the first and best Portuguese restaurant there, Gloria’s Cafe.
Yes, lots of salted cod, but plenty of delicious alternatives:
Alentejana (Porco)
(Diced Pork Fried w/ Clams, Coriander, pickles served on top of Fried Cubed Potatoes)
Rojões
(Pork chunks cooked in Red Wine topped w/ onions and served w/Chorizo, rice, fried cubed potatoes)
Feijoada
(Red Bean Stew with Pork, Chorizo, Beef with Rice)
Caldeirada de Marisco
(Seafood stew w/ various fish, clams, mussels, prawns served w/ Potatoes)
The Portuguese butchers in the area had the best pork I’ve had anywhere.
