Remeber those guys (from the late 1970’s)? They predicted:
-massive food shortages by the 1990’s-they said that famines would be widepsread in Africa in the 1990’s
-ouil fields empty; they predicted that crude oil production would sharply decline by the 1980’s
-metals like copper, amluminum, etc., would soar in price, as supplies became depleted
What happened to these guys…did they ever have the courage to admit that they were wrong about just about EVERY prediction that they made?
Or is there still a gloom and doom scenario-just moved up a few decades?
Anyway…are there any links to this organization?
They’re still in business as a think-tank:
Apparently, “The Limits to Growth” is still considered their fundamental document, even though the predictions did not come through, because it supposedly “started the thinking” about the existence (or need for) limits to growth (I call BS on that and invoke the shade of Malthus). The key is, that the alarm was to the effect that actions (regulatory and by business) had to be taken to prevent the collapse, NOT that it was inevitable. Turns out the governments and businesses did avoid the collapse, anyway, though not by taking the measures the Club proposed.
