What happened to the Ask the Mormon Thread?

I keep on seeing this as, “Ask the Moron Thread”.

I wonder what kind of answers that thread would generate.

I am wearing socks! Two of them!

::snatches threads from CynicalGabe’s socks, flees::

You want us to remove the threads from our socks?

Now you see how difficult the mods’ job is. They have to do it the other way around!

Where did I lose my temper, emarkp? I made a factual observation about your drive-by comment. That you don’t like it is not my problem; it’s yours. You, not I, need to deal with your problem of your not liking an observation.

FWIIW, Monty, I wish you’d get done with the whole sabbatical thing and come back already. You are an ignorance fighter of the first order and I miss your contributions greatly.

Wow, first someone refers to me as deeply religious (didn’t realize I was) and now a great compliment from manhattan. What’s the world coming to?

Right now, I’m living in Bucheon and working in Incheon. Maybe in a few months, maybe in a year, manhattan.

Thanks.

jk with the comment about a compliment from manhattan, who, btw, has complimented me before this.

Her socks have fleas??

Are those really LDS underwear? Theres a picture purporting to be just that on a web page by a James Randi. This weeks commentary.

Yes, those are ‘garments’, or mormon underclothing they receive when they go through their temple and make promises with god on various things. There are indeed marks over each breast, the navel and the knee.

For more information on the mormon garments, temple ceremonies, etc, go here: http://www.lds-mormon.com/veilworker/endowment.shtml I understand that there were recent changes to the temple endowment ceremony (specifically relating to the ‘washing and annointing’ that might not be reflected on that site, but other than that, I can say that the ceremony is (excepting normal human errors) as they describe it.

Maendosa - former mormon of 25 years, temple endowed, married, later divorced and resigned church membership.

I just realized that I should have specified that they were the male garments, from the look of them. The female garments aren’t significantly different, just more lace at hems, a wider scoop neck and a few more inconsequential details. They are worn next to the skin, under all clothing, including bras for women, and any other undergarments.

And finally tactlessly posted a link to a site which posts something LDS consider to be so sacred we don’t discuss it outside the Temple.

Good job.

FTR: That site is anti-LDS, regardless of its claims to the contrary and its misleading URL.

Anti-Mormon in that it publishes things the LDS doesn’t like, which appears to be anything not published by the LDS. Feel free to keep viewing it, Maendosa, no matter what Monty and emarkp say. Your eyes won’t catch fire and it may inspire you to study other forbidden knowledge.

I just want to interject and say hello to Monty. It’s nice to see you around here again. I hope you can become a more regular poster again sometime. Until then, take care and good luck.

Seeing as how I’ve been through the temple personally, I don’t really post the link for my own education, as much as for those who are interested in what happens there, regardless of the condemnation by Monty or others. The link is not anti-mormon, insomuch as it outlines the temple ceremony, which, I myself can vouch for as being accurate - it presents the information with as little bias as I’ve seen regarding the subject matter. There are worse sites to cite, believe me.

Pity that the ‘sacred’ seems to only be ‘sacred’ as long as it is ‘secret’. What is there inherent in the ritual that might not be just as well served were everyone to know about it?

Thanks, DtC.

No, Maendosa, you merely posted the link because you’ve something against that particular religion. You derive some perverse thrill from touting out what you know full well members of that faith consider to be very sacred. It has exactly zero to do with education.

And I’ve a bit of news for you: just because you want something to be yours and others business does not make it yours or others business. In short, the answer to your last question is, as you know that answer already: none of your business.

It’s a trap!

You resurrected a month-old thread for this? Sigh.

This is where you lost your temper:

Now, I could be wrong–your response could have been based on ignorance of the meaning of “temperament” (my misspelling didn’t help). Otherwise, your comment was significantly sharper than appropriate.

It was not a “drive-by”. It was an answer to the question. Indeed, my comment about your temperament not matching Eran of Arcadia’s was a factual comment germane to the question.

Whatever.

“I’m sorry that you’re offended by my observing the fact that you’re a jerk.” Sounds like if I have a problem I’ve got company. The fact that wring found your comments to be a non sequitur don’t exactly back your interpretation up.

But don’t worry–in less than a week my membership expires, and then you can continue your vitriol without comment from me. Indeed, you can congratulate yourself for being a not-insignificant reason for me not to renew. Kudos, sir.
