Does anyone know why the Admin disabled it? I found it horribly useful.

What Member List do you mean, and when did you use it at the SDMB?
The “members” button at the top of the page…when I click it, it says “The Administrator has Disabled the Members List” or something similar.
This is just a wild stab in the dark, but maybe it means that the members list has been disabled by the administrator. […shrug…]
Oh, and it was just a few minutes ago when I tried it, btw.

I meant, when were you able to use it successfully?
We may never know why . . . 
Dirk, my guess - just a guess, mind you - is that people were using it for nefarious means, perhaps as a way to harvest emails.
you know, Arnold, I don’t rightly remember. I do know that I have looked up member info in the past, but it’s possible I was simply clicking the link attached to their name when they’ve been the starter of a new thread. If the members list was never active, or not in the last, say, 3 months, then disregard, because I’m mis-remembering what I was doing.

It was active once upon a time (several years ago, when we first switched to vB), and every so often, a chaange in settings will accidentally cause it to be available for a day or three, before an admin changes it back. But in general, no.
In addition to possible privacy issues, I understand that it was also a considerable strain on the hamsters.
DirkGntly - it was never active in the time frame you remember. The reasons for turning it off were ably explained by that Time God fellow, son of Uranus and Gaia, castrator of his father, devourer and disgorger of his children, husband of Rhea, father of Zeus and Chiron, ruler of the Islands of the Blessed.
We have a mod named Timex?!?
Actually the god Chronos (the personification of time) and Cronus or Kronos (son and castrator of Uranus, brother and husband of Rhea, father and would-be devourer of Zeus, and erstwhile lord of the Universe) are separate and distinct deities. However, given the ancients’ penchant for such amalgamations as Zeus-Ammon, I suppose it’s only a minor heresy.
