What happened to the "Michelle Obama 'Whitey'" tape rumors/rumormongers?

There was this one Hillary supporter (Larry Johnson, research shows) who was pushing the “there’s a tape with Michelle Obama saying ‘whitey’” story pretty heavily. I went to a blog he wrote for (NoQuarter) and saw a lot of Obama bashing and Hillary/Palin praising, so I couldn’t bear to search more for what his latest claims on the tape were.

So what DID happen to all those people insisting the tape existed? What do they say now that the election is over, and it’s, uh, unlikely that McCain is still holding it back for maximum advantage? Do they actually admit they were wrong? Hell, even Michelle Malkin, that great Obamaite, said pretty firmly that she didn’t believe the tape existed, if only for the fact that she didn’t trust Johnson one iota.

I know that there was only a slight chance in hell that the rumor was accurate from the start, but I’m curious if there was/is any backpedaling at all, or if they’re stubbornly sticking to their story, OR (most likely) if they’re not saying anything and trying to make everyone forget they said anything.

That story died quickly because it was stupid. She had said “… why’d he … ?”, not “whitey”.

AFAIK, they never even found a tape of her saying “why’d he”.

The guy was a shameless liar. Such people rarely feel the need to apologize for lying. The latest version on the story, according to Wikipedia, goes like this:

And if you believe that, he’s got a videotape of the Brooklyn Bridge he’d like to sell you.

Is Michelle Obama on it screaming “Whitey”?

Probably not, but I bet you could find someone else just as good!

So, it sounds like there’s no such tape, which is fine.

But what if there was? Or a tape of any other prominent black person screaming “whitey” or displaying anti-white sentiment of some other kind?

Look, white people enslaved black people, tortured and killed them, broke their families up, and in general behaved with unimaginable cruelty. For centuries. Millions of white people did this to millions of black people. It was even enshrined in the Constitution. And some kinds of this behavior are still going on. What amount of rage about this would be inappropriate? We could debate what would be the most constructive, helpful attitude for building a bright new future, and maybe we want a First Family that loves America in every way possible, but some anger about this whole picture seems completely fitting and fair, doesn’t it?

You mean like that one celebrity on the Katrina fund-raising telethon who went off-script and started talking about how George Bush hated black people?

Kanye West.

Michael Myers was stunned!

I recall at the time of the Michelle tape rumors that Rush was warning his folks not to buy into this.
