October 26: today is the deadline for the government to appeal last month’s ruling

on Monday October 24, the ACLU filed papers in opposition to the CIA’s motion for partial reconsideration. Later that same day, Judge Hellerstein signed an order further enlarging the stay, until November 1 to permit him time for consideration of the government motion and plaintiff’s opposition.

So soon, unless the lefties at dailyKos are lying, or the judge decides he needs more time, or he changes his mind…

A judge could rule on whether to order the release of new photographs from the U.S.-run Abu Ghraib prison anytime after Dec. 15, an ACLU spokesperson told RAW STORY.

Technically, it’s still after Dec. 15.

Online magazine publishes full archive of Army photos from Abu Ghraib prison abuse case

The online news magazine Salon.com published on Tuesday what it called the complete archive of the Army’s photographic evidence in the Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse investigations.

It looks like a leaker did an end run around the pentagon and the court.

Is that the total of images the government has? I did not see where they stated that.

NPR’s “This American Life” did an hour on prisoners and their lack of access to rights in “Habeas Schmabeas” last Sunday. It’s worth listening to. The link is here:

It’s the “Last Week” program on the main page and will be there until this Sunday (3/19/06), after that it will be moved to to the archives.
While it does not directly address the OP, it is related and very enlightening. They talk to some of the, released, former prisoners, and to lawyers representing prisoners.

US agrees to release Abu Ghraib pictures (Mar 28, 2006)

The Defense Department on Tuesday agreed to release 74 photos and three videos – many that have already been published – that depict prisoner abuse in Abu Ghraib and were sought by civil rights groups.

According to the American Civil Liberties Union, Salon.com recently posted 279 photographs and 19 videos from Abu Ghraib on its Web site.

The Defense Department will identify any of Darby’s images already published on Salon.com and release edited versions of any that may not have appeared on the Web site, it said in court documents.

So Salon published more photos and videos than had been sued for, but may not have gotten all that was sued for.
