What happened to the SDS?

what ever happened to Students for a Democratic Society?

i am a high school student and can’t think of any organizations that are geared toward a liberal-type student such as myself. Except, of course, for the SDS, but they seem to be out of the picture.

anybody got any info?

Question Authority

Your request is akin to asking where you can find a lava lamp or Beatle boots. I’m sure they’re still around but nobody really cares anymore. Just do a search for SDS or Weathermen and you will get loads of sites, mostly related to the history of the '60s.

There’s also a related SDMB thread from way back:

The SDS also lost all credibility when they were infiltrated by the CIA.
If you want a good (and interesting) organization geared toward your way of thinking, try the ACLU.

Then we’ll turn our tommy guns

and the peoples voice will be the only sound.

Cool! Do you know where I can get some Beatle boots?

…uh…not that I want a pair…just curious…yeah that’s it.

By early 1969, various factions within the SDS were jockeying for power. At the June convention, the Weathermen staged a coup, and the SDS, at least as a democratic group, ceased to exist. The SDS national office was closed by the end of the year.

You might also try your friendly local Communist Party office…

I don’t know why fortune smiles on some and lets the rest go free…
