What happens if a newly booked-in inmate refused to change into a jumpsuit

Or refused to strip search?

If you’re talking about new inmates in a prison (who have already been convicted of a felony and are doing their time), then they will be changed and searched. And placed in the segregation unit for a time.

At least in Wisconsin.

Back in the (not so?) old days, the batons would have come out, and he’d have woken up cavity searched and dressed in a jumpsuit in the infirmary.

I have wondered about what would happen if a die-hard maniac refused to cooperate with being arrested and booked. Wouldn’t be fingerprinted or photographed, screamed and yelled continually, flung poo like a monkey, etc.

My guess? Tased, I imagine, at the least.

Then medicated.

No chemical control allowed. Big no-no, unless there’s clear and present danger to life/limb.

Tasers/pepper spray generally not used for refusals to cooperate either. Passive resistance gets the job done to/for you. Active resistance can escalate the response.

But the paperwork necessary for using force is huuuge and most guards prefer to avoid it when possible.

He’d promptly beat up his captors, steal a motorbike, and escape into the Pacific Northwest.

That happened up here in Anoka County, MN when a female burgler refused to co-operate for the booking process. The jail eventually got took her picture when she was sleeping and got her print from a glass that she touched and figured out who she was, but she would only answer to Jane Doe. Eventually she was sent to the state forensic hospital, determined to be incompetent to stand trial, and civilly committed six months after her arrest.

That is nice to know. I now little about prison, and i would prefer not to find out first-hand, but I’m sure I’d be cooperative.
