What happens if Trump is indicted in Georgia? (Indicted on August 14, 2023)

And what in the fuck does any of it have to do with putting Trump on trial? I honestly don’t understand any of this.

So then logic suggests that introducing that evidence in this case wasn’t the best strategy.

As to why it wasn’t, we won’t know since we aren’t part of the legal team. Second-guessing them seems a bit silly.

Your understanding is incorrect. ‘They’ are not saying that.

It’s about screaming and throwing feces as a show to the MAGAts to demonstrate what a powerful monkey Trump is. That’s it.

Stripped of its bonkers elements, your argument seems to boil down to, “If you’re innocent, you have nothing to hide.”

But let’s add those bonkers elements back in. If your brown leg hair is shaved into an “I HEART Nickelback” pattern and is encrusted with plastic sequins and teeny tiny little penis toys, you might not want to lift that pant leg. Sometimes people engage in perfectly legal activity that they want to keep private, either because they’re not oversharers, or because they know it’ll be used against them by their enemies.

I’m going to say this rises to the level of “it doesn’t look”, not the level of disqualification.

I must say this judge will definitely be able to handle the multiple defendants/lawyers of this rico case. He handled his courtroom well. There was a very palatable change in the court room after his 5 minute break.

Unless they have some sort of “gotchaya” tomorrow, I don’t believe he will disqualify Willis/wade. Heaven help the defence lawyers if they dare to raise this issue in the trial should it go forward.

It tasted good?

I have to agree, and I’ve been a licensed attorney since 2007.

This side hearing is insane. The idea that the defense attorneys get to take testimony from the prosecutor is insane. The idea that we are debating whether a grand jury indictment is politically motivated is insane (so what if it is? DAs are elected).

This whole thing is insane.

Yes, it tasted of the tears of lawyerly frustration.

Palpable, that’s the ticket, palpable.

A couple of things: Pundits think the motion for dismissal, which led to today’s hearing, could have been dismissed as lacking any serious legal argument, but judges in Trump-related trials tend to be cautious, perhaps overly cautious, in avoiding even the appearance of shutting down any defense. I’m not equipped to opine on the wisdom of this.

Second, per Andrew Weissmann, the state attorneys this morning were arguing vociferously that the subpoena for Willis’s testimony was wholly baseless and inappropriate and the judge seemed inclined to agree—when Willis interjected saying she waived any objections to the subpoena. Weissmann seemed to think it was a very effective “I’ve got nothing to hide from these assholes” strategy (okay, I’m paraphrasing).

Yes. Without her framing of why she had so much cash, and her relationship thoughts, and the role of men in her life; it could have gone very differently.

Hey! Stop trying to get in the way of a good developing conspiracy theory.

Another revolting — for Trump — development (cross-posted from the Schadenfreude thread):

From everything I’ve heard so far, I am (a) optimistic that Willis will not be disqualified and will continue on the case, and (b) fearful of what the lunatics in the Georgia legislature may yet do to try to remove her. Because her basic and unforgivable transgression is bringing criminal charges against the Orange Messiah. It’s no more complicated than that.

Matt Gaetz: “Hello…”

I dunno - we’d need full details of any wing wang/hoo ha related activity first.

Yes, @Chronos got it. But I like @Riemann’s version, too. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I said it before when people insisted long ago that the Georgia Republicans were going to stop this (and it didn’t happen) and I’ll say it again, Trump pissed off a lot of Georgia Republicans when he went after them. I don’t think he has nearly as strong of a grip there as he does elsewhere. The angry GOP just has to sit on their hands and watch him go down and don’t have to stick their necks out at all to see it happen.

He ain’t their messiah.

I’ve been watching the live feed of the essentially empty Fulton County courtroom for pretty much an hour, now.

I’ve really got to get a life.

At the time, I was surprised by how many Republicans, Georgia Republicans, just went along with Trump telling the whole world they couldn’t run a fair election. As leader of the party, he’s supposed to be a unifying force. The party leader should work to bring as many Republicans into the fold as possible. But he demonstrated he doesn’t have a problem throwing the party under the bus if it gets Trump what he wants. These days I’m surprised when Republicans stand up to him.

At this point I expect the Trump attorneys to bring in a huge blown up picture of Hunter Biden’s penis, wave it about and yell “IF YOU SEE A DICK, YOU MUST ACQUIT!”

That would fit in with their “strategy”
